The best way to predict the future is to create it yourself.

That’s the advice Damian Rinaldi carries with him, filmed at the MPEG Awards earlier this year.

Damian is CEO of @weareampal AMPAL, the Australasian Music Publishers’ Association.

“If you’re wondering where to get to next, you might actually have to try and conceive it yourself.”

Simple. Not easy.

Australian mastering talent! One of the most beautiful and rewarding aspects of developing plugins for my peers is being able to do so while supporting both established and up-and-coming talent.

Mickey Nox Mastering is a real gem in the Australian music landscape, stamping himself as a staple mastering engineer for EDM, House and Tech producers, having mastered records for @tyronhapimusic @bengerrans @teamwrkrecords and @conradofficial to name a few.

I still pinch myself every day that other professionals have taken this plugin, given it their ear, and approved it for regular use in their own sessions.

Go support some Aussie talent and check out what Mickey is up to on his IG page!

Why does mentorship matter in music production? Xylo Aria explains.

Mentorship is the fast-track nobody talks about.

Filmed at the MPEG Awards earlier this year.

Xylo is the founder of Music Production for Women, a global education platform, and an artist and producer in her own right.

“You can, of course, learn everything yourself. We’re in an information age and everything’s out there,” she says. “But to actually get that broken down by someone that’s gone through that process is going to fast-track you in a way that you can’t do yourself.”

“I have many mentors in many different aspects of my life. In the music industry, in business, and in general life as well. People that live life in a great way, with a great attitude. I value that so much.”

Who won Producer of the Year at the 2026 MPEG Awards? Alice Ivy @aliceivymusic the biggest award of the night.

“It was pretty amazing. Honestly really surprising,” she says. “I didn’t think I was gonna take that one out. Everyone in that category was amazing.”

MPEG @mpeguild is the only national awards program in Australia built entirely around producers and engineers, the people usually working behind the glass, not in front of it.

“This particular award means so much to me, to be recognised in that way by my fellow peers.”

On the night itself: “I just loved being able to see people IRL. We all spend so much time in separate rooms and dark caves. Getting together and doing this stuff is amazing.”

Congratulations Alice Ivy!

Filmed at the MPEG Awards earlier this year.

There’s no room for mediocre anymore. Simon Cohen @simoncohenis explains why.

Filmed at the 2026 MPEG Awards.

“There is no spot for mediocre anymore, especially in a world where the less discerning audience can literally click a button and spin up a pretend artist with a pretend record,” he says. “There is no place to not really go for it. If you’re in, you’re all in.”

AI can generate a song. It can’t generate a story.

“There’s gonna become this moment where we as a society get over the idea of generated music, and what people are gonna yearn for is really soulful, personal things again. People telling their stories imperfectly, but with heaps of heart.”

“Give me emotion. I can put it in time or whatever, but I need you to make me feel it.”

Simon Cohen, Recording Engineer of the Year at this year’s MPEG Awards @mpeguild
