A clean lap from my first time driving at Jefferson. This is a 1:32.xxx, so I’m still in the early learning stages.

This track is sketchier than others in some aspects. The grade is rough, the curbs are tall, and there aren’t really any runoff areas. That being said, it flows nicely. Some corners are really difficult to master, with turn 14 (the final one) coming to mind. It’s a double apex that tightens towards the exit (all while climbing uphill and then downhill). Some of the off-cambered areas of the track require a lot of patience too.

Thanks to my instructor @mr2.san, we spent the day focusing on keeping the car balanced with techniques such as maintenance throttle, and learning the importance of positioning the car correctly to connect corners.

Even after the brakes started cooking and the tires were getting greasier, the GLI did a fantastic job throughout the whole day. I can’t wait to come back here and apply what I’ve learned!

Back on the track for a second time!

Ever since my debut at Shenandoah, I was eager as ever to get back out there. There were a few bumps along the way, but it was very much worth it. The car did absolutely fantastic as well. No mechanical issues whatsoever, even though I was skeptical about one of my tires holding air. I even started smoking my brake pads going deep into braking zones. Perhaps I’ve already outgrown them.

Jefferson Circuit is a sketchier venue in some places, with little runoff and a rougher grade—but it’s still a thrilling course with some really tricky corners. Thanks to my awesome instructor @mr2.san, I went from initially cruising to 4 wheel sliding everywhere and shaving off many, many seconds (and I’m still a whole 10 seconds behind TT pace). Together we focused a lot on balance and car placement, and I feel a lot more confident now in looking ahead and apexing late.

Even with only 8 total track sessions so far this year, I have learned so much about both myself and my car. I can’t wait to revisit the tracks I’ve already done thus far and keep pursuing incremental improvements.
