Summer days in BC 🌞🇨🇦

Picking wild berries, with nowhere to be, not another soul in sight and mountains as our never ending backdrop.

We stumbled across this amazing old forestry road off our favourite Cassiar Highway and were rewarded with the biggest patch of raspberry bushes we’d seen yet! With bear spray in hand, we spent hours slowly making our way along the track in BAMA, stopping to pick berries in the sunshine. Eventually we found a perfect clearing to camp for the night. Take us back! 🥹

(any guesses whose hair is on the raspberry in the photo?)

13•10•2008 ~ 18 years of chasing the next adventure together 🫶🏼

We’ve called a lot of places home, but none quite like BAMA.
Driving around the world and figuring it out as we go is exactly where we’re meant to be.

Here’s to the unknown roads ahead. We’ll tackle them all together. 🤎

G’day, we’re Cort and Kyle 👋🏼

We sold our house and everything we owned to drive around the world in our Aussie-built LWB 4X4 Sprinter van… BAMA.

Why a LWB Sprinter?

Because we wanted comfort as well as adventure.
We wanted space, while still fitting on trails and tracks.
We wanted to be fully self-sufficient, off-road and off-grid.
And we wanted a bit of protection in rough weather.

But most importantly, we wanted a home on the road that we didn’t feel the need to escape from, and that’s exactly what BAMA is.

After nearly a year of living in her full-time and driving across 3 countries, we can safely say we made the best decision for us and the way we like to live on the road.

There are so many different options when it comes to building an overland rig, and there’s no right or wrong setup - just do what works for YOU.

That’s the beauty of it ✌🏼

We came to Malcom Island really hoping to see orcas for our first time, maybe even get lucky enough to watch them rub their bodies on the pebbles along the shoreline (one of the rare few places in the world you can see this) but it wasn’t to be this time.

We did see dolphins, humpback whales, sea otters, sea lions and bald eagles so we definitely weren’t short on wildlife 🐋🦦🦅

We loved the quiet, slow pace of the island and, as always, being by the ocean makes us so happy 🌊

Listening to the waves move the pebbles along the beach was such a unique sound and one we won’t forget.

We have had a blast exploring the North of Vancouver Island!

It is always more fun exploring with others, and we couldn't have had a better crew to do it with 🤙😊

Always thankful to have such a capable vehicle to get us to the coolest of campsites. Go check out the latest youtube video to see how we got here! 🏕🤞

Vancouver Island is wild, beautiful, unpredictable and everything we came for 🌊

Remote beach camps with new and old friends, winding through rainforests in a variety of adventure rigs, waiting out torrential rain, watching seals and otters, waterfalls, shared meals, listening to howling wolves and spotting black bears, lots of laughs, making the most of every bit of sunshine we got… and BAMA even had a cheeky little swim 🫣😆

Thanks to the crew for a great week ☺️ @_occasionallytravelling_ @slowroamers @andrew2_cruisecontrol

Moments from Hallo Bay, Alaska

What a privilege to even share the same beach as him for a short while. Wait till you see the size of his paw 🤎

When a bear comes visit us for a change!

We were parked up at our oceanside camp when a ranger stopped by to tell us a young brown bear was headed our way along the lower shoreline. So we got camera ready to capture from above, when the bear decided to climb up to our level and sent us ushering back to the safety of the van.

No flights needed in Haines to see brown bears that’s for sure!
Man we love Alaska! 🐻

One of the best experiences of our lives! 🐻

We spent 3 unforgettable hours on a remote stretch of beach in Katmai National Park, watching multiple coastal brown bears go about their day.

Some were digging for clams on the tidal mud flats, while others were grazing on fresh sedge grass in the meadows (which surprisingly tastes like coriander… yes, we tried it! ☺️)

Then, just as we got back to the beach ready to leave… a mama bear and her two cubs appeared. The perfect way to end an incredible day.

It was surprisingly the most relaxed we’ve ever felt around bears. Despite being so close, they barely gave us a second glance, completely focused on feeding. The entire experience felt calm and peaceful.

Brown bears are the same species as inland grizzlies, but coastal brown bears grow much larger thanks to their protein-rich diet, especially salmon. Katmai is home to the highest concentration of protected brown bears in the world.

The flight from Homer to Hallo Bay in a Cessna bush plane was an experience in itself… volcanoes, glaciers and endless mountains, all set against the backdrop of the ocean.

A huge thank you to our Alaskan pilot and guide, Amelia (a local from neighbouring Kodiak Island), who made the whole day feel so relaxed and personal for our small group of five.

If seeing wild brown bears is on your bucket list, we couldn’t recommend this Alaskan experience more.
