Did you know that @blackgirlshack is a training-focused nonprofit organization that was created to help increase diversity in cybersecurity by helping to bridge the gap between what is taught in educational institutions and what is necessary for careers in cybersecurity?

In a world where education often comes with a hefty price tag, @mrstennisha , Founder of BlackGirlsHack, shares a vision we can all get behind: Democratizing Knowledge.

Remember those college days when textbooks could cost as much as your rent? Imagine getting 10-15 books for just $20 through Humble Bundles. That’s a game-changer @jahze_snapz and @itssomeonecalledj_ are excited to talk about in the episode with Tennisha, and it’s not just about the books; it’s about making learning accessible to everyone, regardless of their financial circumstances.

The future of education is affordable, diverse, and inclusive and it can be one of the most empowering tools we could give to each other.

Now is your chance to volunteer, provide mentorship, sponsor a Squad Member, donate to the community or share your humble bundles with Tennisha’s whole BGH Squad!

In the tech and cybersecurity world, staying up-to-date isn’t just a luxury; it’s a necessity. @mrstennisha highlights a critical issue for @itssomeonecalledj_ and @jahze_snapz : our current education system often lags behind the industry’s rapid pace, leaving students with skills that are outdated by the time they graduate.

In fields that evolve as quickly as technology and cybersecurity, relying solely on traditional education is like using an old map to navigate a new city. Tennisha points out that while principles in fields like accounting remain relatively stable, tech and cybersecurity demand continuous learning and adaptation.

Our takeaway? Embrace lifelong learning and stay attuned to the latest industry trends. Whether you’re just starting out or you’re already in the field, keep updating your skills and knowledge. After all, in the ever-shifting landscape of technology, staying still almost guarantees you’ll fall behind.

The future of education and work is fast approaching and @mrstennisha provides thought-provoking insights for @jahze_snapz and @itssomeonecalledj_ on what she envisions. By 2045, imagine individualized learning experiences tailored just for you, delivered by AI teachers who understand precisely where you need support. In this evolving landscape, foundational knowledge and a strong network will be your key allies.

Entry-level roles as we know them could transform tremendously in the future, with AI taking over routine tasks and humans stepping up to handle more complex challenges. Tennisha’s advice? Strengthen your fundamental skills and stay connected with your network—the fusion of technology and human collaboration will be what sets you apart. Embrace these changes and prepare to navigate a dynamic workforce where adaptability and strong foundations are the name of the game.

Navigating the unpredictable terrain of cybersecurity requires more than just textbook knowledge. @mrstennisha explores this reality in her discussion with @jahze_snapz and @itssomeonecalledj_ .

In an ideal world, every network runs smoothly, but we know that’s rare. While controlled environments are useful for practice, they often miss the unpredictable nature of actual cyber threats. This is where troubleshooting and problem-solving skills truly shine. Tennisha emphasizes the importance of facing challenges head-on, as real learning happens in the trenches, beyond structured environments. Training in controlled settings is valuable, but it’s the unexpected obstacles that sharpen your abilities.

Her message is clear: Challenges and adversity aren’t roadblocks—they’re powerful learning opportunities. Embrace the struggle and the adversity, they just may lead to mastery in the field.

“Be twice as good to be noticed.” Sound familiar? Many of us have felt the pressure to prove ourselves in a world that’s quick to judge and slow to support. This is especially true for Black women in tech, like Tennisha Martin, who face unique challenges in their professional journeys. @mrstennisha told @itssomeonecalledj_ and @jahze_snapz how she initially tried to navigate her career alone, believing she didn’t need anyone’s help. However, she soon realized that going solo isn’t the answer. Real strength lies in collaboration and community.

Her experience highlights a critical lesson: we don’t have to face these hurdles alone. By learning from each other’s experiences, we can avoid the pitfalls of isolation and create a powerful support network.

Here’s what we can take away from Tennisha’s journey:
• Collaboration is Key: Whether through mentorship, sharing resources, or simply being there for each other, collective effort leads to greater success.
• Community Over Isolation: Leveraging a support network helps us grow and overcome challenges more effectively.
• Shared Success: We all rise higher when we lift each other up.

Let’s dismantle those silos and create a culture of support and collaboration. Together, we can achieve more and inspire others along the way.

In a truly candid conversation with @itssomeonecalledj_ and @jahze_snapz, @mrstennisha, Founder of @blackgirlshack, highlights a critical issue many of us face in the tech space: Understanding our Worth in the Workplace.

“Why aren’t we having conversations about salary? That to me is saying, like, hey, there’s something to hide if you feel like you have to keep it secret.”

Have you ever felt compelled to accept an offer because it seems higher than what you or those in your community have ever been offered? Sometimes, that six-figure number might just be smoke and mirrors, hiding the true market value for your skill set.

How do you know if what is being offered is equitable? The answer begins with open discussions about pay:
✨ Talk to mentors to get insights based on their experiences.
✨ Consult sponsors for a broader industry perspective.
✨ Build a network of allies who can share their own negotiation techniques and actionable insight about the value of your skillset.
✨ Learn about the market rate for your skills and how to advocate for your true value.

Let’s break the stigma around salary discussions and foster an environment where everyone can negotiate confidently and transparently. Because when we talk openly about money, we ensure fair compensation for everyone, helping to reduce wage disparities.

It’s release day 🎉 📚

Securing Our Future: Embracing The Resilience and Brilliance of Black Women in Cyber

It’s an anthology co-authored in collaboration with an amazing group of black women in cyber.

aka ⬇️

@blkwicc_

It’s a collaborative work & masterpiece - We come from different backgrounds & penned down sharing the brilliance & resilience of our journey in to cyber.

Honored & lucky to be amongst them in this collaboration!

It’s my 4th publication following my 3 award winning children’s books!

You will find my chapter ‘Securing
Possibilities’ on chapter 10 ✌🏾

When I decided to join the cybersecurity industry back in late 2017
✨ women only represented 11% shortly after to 14% of the industry.
✨ It recently rose to 25%.

You might have also heard in recent report that the workforce gap isn’t only 3.4 million rather 4 million due to cut backs & layoffs impacting the industry.

Now, we can only imagine the impact on women in cybersecurity workforce.

✨ Although we are hearing that it is expected to grow to 30% by 2025…

We aren’t & will not be there!

✨ While only 9% of the workforce identify as black (Aspen Digital report)

MUCH lower for black women in cybersecurity.

The math ain’t mathing.

We need more women from all walks of life into the industry to bring the diverse perspectives the industry desperately needs to continue contributing to solving problems & increase innovation.

Thank you for the LIVe author discussion on @linkedin this morning and thank you for hosting us @mrstennisha is
