My regulation partner and co-facilitator in training I got Rio just about a year ago thanks to @katiegraylove who very gently and not so subtly introduced us- she had found a litter of puppies with their mother in the fields near her neighborhood here in mexico. Katie and her neighbor took them all in, each kept a puppy, and adopted out the rest- including wittle rio He is a sweet, sensitive pup who is super cuddly and drawn to humans. We have recently started group dog training with @alkdogtraining and it is becoming clear that Rio would like to join me in my spaces and offerings ✨ I’m so grateful for him #mexicanstreetdog #therapydogintraining #emotionalsupportdog #nervoussystemregulation

Teamwork Makes the Dream Work✨ In this video, we’re installing the skylight on a reciprocal roof. While this isn’t part of the official workshop, you might be wondering—why are we doing it at night? 🙂 Simply put, we were motivated, and it was a lot of fun! One of the best aspects of these workshops is connecting with like-minded people and making new friends. Working together on a project and building a structure from scratch is truly empowering and can be a transformative experience. If you're looking to try something new in 2025, there are still spots available for the first @cruzincobglobal workshop of the year, taking place in January/February in Puerto Rico 🇵🇷. In just 5 weeks, we’ll be building a 14m² roundhouse—from the foundation all the way to the reciprocal green roof. Additional workshops are scheduled throughout the year in Kenya, Costa Rica, and the US. Get in touch with @cruzincobglobal directly or check the link in bio. See you soon! ☀️ #CobBuilding #ReciprocalRoof #SustainableLiving #EcoFriendly #NaturalBuilding #HandmadeHomes #BuildingCommunity #OffGridLife #DIYWorkshop #InspiringOthers #GrowthMindset #OutOfComfortZone #NewExperiences

Since the beginning of 2024 I have embarked on a journey of self-discovery and learning. After finishing a crash course in agroecology in August, I went for a five-week intensive natural building workshop in the Azores. During that period, I've learned how to build with cob (as well as wood and stone), alongside eight other students. The workshop was led by @todaviaviva & @cruzincobglobal and it took place at @quintadobomdespacho on the island of Sao Miguel. On my side of things, all this was made possible thanks to the very special help of more than 70 contributors. These workshops and all the costs associated to attending AND documenting them can go up pretty fast, but the return on investment is immense.  In my first crowdfunding video, I've explained how being a commercial photographer for the past 15 years opened my eyes on the incoherences of this world and why it was imperative that we create alternatives and participate in existing ones.  Mauritius is a small island, and just like the Azores, it is particularly vulnerable to the effects of climate change. Our ways of building and inhabiting our land have to evolve and include these alternatives. This is how we reinvent our relationship with ourselves and with this common land. If like me you are thirsty for new ways of doing things, remember that we can all somehow "take the lead" and become agents of change in our own ways.  More about this in the Natural Building section of my website (www.karlahnee.art) Link in the bio 🌞🌿

~Slooowwww plastering 🐌 ~ We are applying the finishing coat of plaster, burnishing (polishing the mixture to make it really smooth and tight) and carving out some of the original cob mixture (clay, sand, straw). We also added a “wheat paste” into the mix to act as a water barrier to help prevent any moisture from getting through. I love the finishing process because it really accentuates the texture/design and just makes everything pop! . . . in partnership with @cruzincobglobal Azores 2024 #naturalplaster #permaculture #permacultura #ecobuilding #bioconstruccion #bioconstrução #earthenware #naturalbuilding #naturalliving #ecoliving

~See what I did there 😉~ I love things that are imperfect, because in their imperfection lies the beauty… In Japanese culture, Wabi-Sabi is a concept that finds beauty in things imperfect, impermanent and incomplete. It’s about recognizing the beauty in humble simplicity. It invites us to open our heart and detach from the vanity of materialism so we can experience spiritual richness instead. Accept what is, stay in the present moment, and appreciate the simplicity of life✨ . . . 📸 in collaboration w/ @cruzincobglobal 2024 workshop Azores 🎵 @omarenfedaque

🪨🌲 This outdoor kitchen is made almost entirely out of local materials. From the rock foundation, to the cob walls, rocket stove & cob oven, lava rock countertops, seating, and the living earth roof! It was an honor to build this outdoor kitchen and cob oven with such talented people in the Azores! We put a lot of energy and love into this…from the rock foundation, building the rock hearth and wood chamber, setting the refractory brick oven floor, to mixing the cob (clay, sand, straw mixture), placing glass insulation, packing the sand form, adding another insulation layer, building a “squirrel-tail” smoke chamber over the top, setting the masonry bricks, then a cob plaster coat over the entire structure, and troweling it to make it smooth. So proud of what we accomplished and couldn’t be happier with this piece. I’m excited to share more videos of the project in the upcoming days! credit: @cruzincobglobal 2024 Workshop #naturalbuilding #cob #coboven #naturaplaster #permaculture #homesteading #azores #brickoven #naturalhouse #homegardening #offgridliving #zerowastelifestyle
