Blessed to be the recipient of the 2025 Distinguished Alumnus Leadership Award from the Leadership Institute of Acadiana! This award is bestowed on Leadership Lafayette alumni whose professional and civic contributions to the community correlate with the goals, mission, and vision of LIA. It also reflects the following criteria: leaders who have made substantial contributions to the community; innovative, resolute, ambitious, inspirational leaders; and, those who embody the pillars of servant leadership. I’m forever grateful to my experience in the program and being a graduate of Leadership Lafayette Class XXIX. Special thanks to everyone for all the love and support. I’m truly humbled for this special honor!

It was a productive and successful week with breakfast events for two of our local nonprofit organizations! It kicked off with the Lafayette Habitat for Humanity’s Annual Breakfast featuring highlights from the year along with a panel of community leaders. The year in review included a video featuring footage and interviews of myself and several of our UL students being actively engaged with the organization. The second event was the 25th Anniversary Birthday Celebration of Miles Perret Cancer Services. This included several speakers and videos highlighting the organization and its impact to our community with over 26,400 families served since 2001! As an emeritus member of the board of directors, I’m grateful for the opportunity to serve this organization since 2015 and looking forward to the continued commitment for the future. Both of these organizations are truly gems to our community!

Cheers to another great year of serving as an adjunct faculty member and teaching two first-year seminar courses for our incoming freshmen class! In addition to teaching Black Male Leadership this semester, I had the opportunity to be an instructor for the Service and Leadership Living Learning Community. I’m grateful for the ability to impact the lives of our new students while creating an educational space and assisting them with successfully transitioning to UL. To the Ragin’ Cajun Class of 2028, thank you for allowing me to be part of your experience and trusting the process. I look forward to watching each of you become outstanding individuals and student leaders on our campus. Professor Henderson signing out! ❤️🤟🏽

This past semester, the UL Reginald F. Lewis Scholars Advisory Board celebrated our UL scholars for completing over 1,000 hours of community service for the 2023-2024 academic year! This was the largest number of hours completed in the program and is a true testament to the dedication of our scholars to making an impact in the community. #BlackMaleExcellence
