Happy Week Two of Gullah Geechee Heritage Month! 🌾🌊

When I was building the world of the Geechmobo Reef, I knew the Soulaan Mersa had to be fashionable, but I also wanted their style to actually mean something. You can’t write a Gullah Geechee fantasy without dressing the characters in the culture.

From Sweetgrass corsets and Haint Blue silk gowns that ward off evil spirits, to executive desks carved from Black Tupelo wood sourced from Lowcountry swamps—every detail is a direct homage to the sacred materials and history of our ancestors.
We took the elements of the land and brought them deep into the Atlantic.

Can’t even blame it on the alcohol being delusional enough to do all this while working two jobs and in school full time, but it WAS how i celebrated getting all this done.

Happy Gullah Geechee Heritage Month! 🌊 Born and raised right in the Corridor (DUVAL to Savannah).
Right when I was about to start writing a Southern Black mermaid fantasy, I found out my family has lived on this exact coastal soil for over 300 years. That discovery shifted everything—they had to specifically be Gullah Geechee mermaids.
All October long, I’m celebrating my debut book, A Gullah Geechee Mermaid Anthology, by sharing the authentic Lowcountry folklore, food like Hoppin’ John, and traditions behind my world. Wishing everyone a proud, joyful Gullah Geechee Heritage Month!

Back Talk with Tiff: The Reality of Nerve Pain 🤍

For Suicide Awareness Month, I’m opening up about a reality of chronic nerve pain that often gets swept under the rug. Living with a compressed spine and a nervous system on fire changes you, especially when you belong to the group of people who get absolutely zero relief from pain management while waiting for answers.

I’m sharing my testimony today to give respect to the intensity of that specific kind of pain, but more importantly, to remind anyone currently trapped in it that your body is fighting for you, even when it feels like it’s failing.

I found my new normal after surgery, and I have experienced so much beauty that I would have missed if I hadn’t stayed. If you are waiting for answers and relief, please hold on. Your “after” is coming.

Didn’t let that theatre background collect dust. Pulled up to the mic with no formal voiceover credits, just vibes, stage training, and the determination to bring my mermaids characters to life. Indie author / self producer life is a whole sport! 😭📚🌊

UPDATE: Bronchitis halted production for a second, but good things take a little extra lung capacity. New drop date: October 5th! 😮‍💨💅🏾

You asked for Part 2! 😭 Voicing your own book at home is 10% reading and 90% vocal warmups, silencing every device in the house, and snapping when you mess up to make editing 10x easier. Drop a comment if you want to see how we edit these files down! 🧜🏾‍♀️🩵

Tried to give polished narrator. The playback gave Duval Lowcountry. At this point, the Gullah Geechee mermaid audiobook is getting this authentic coastal accent whether the mic is ready or not! 🩵🧜🏾‍♀️ #voiceactor #msdevotedtiff

My incredibly talented friend @msdevotedtiff , of @tiffwrightwrites just published her first book!! I just got mine today and can’t wait to dive in. (Mermaid pun intended). Wanna support a lovely, smart, so funny, Black author from right here in The Lowcountry? Give her a follow or buy her book!

Here’s her book’s description: Step into the warm, enchanting Gullah Geechee Sea Island waters of the magical coral reef city of Geechmobo for the debut of this cozy Afro mermaid fantasy series that celebrates Soulaan heritage, Afrofuturism, and sacred West African sea deities. 🧜🏿‍♀️🧜🏿‍♂️🧜🏿

So proud of you, TIFF!!! 🩷🩷🩷
