Shakespeare in the Kitchen! Here’s your Daily Dose of Diva: while doing a costume trial for my alter ego(@mskatasstrophy ), my BFA popped out for a moment 🤣🤣🤣 Sonnet 29, featuring the pepper from dinner in my teeth (it adds depth lolol)

At SUNY Purchase we all had to learn a few of the same Sonnets for Leigh and this one was a favorite for most everyone - let me know how I did on my take and if you come after my scansion then know it’s been almost 10 years since I even thought of this, I can’t believe it sprung to my memory so crisp. :))

PERFORMER SPOTLIGHT!

We're beyond excited to present in her Jax debut....

Ms. KatAssTrophy!

"Known to leave a lasting impression, msKatAssTrophy (like:Catastrophe) has now backed that ass down to her hometown of Jax, after a decade in New York City, to show you all that she's cultivated in her 25 years performing professionally. She made a splash upon her return to the stage, winning Best Actress in the 2023 Folio Weekly for her role of Emily Penrose in The Lifespan Of A Fact. She puts her BFA in Acting (S.U.N.Y. Purchase) and Improv training from Upright Citizens Brigade (UCB) to work! She's been off broadway and spent 5 yrs as an actor at the remarkably popular Jekyll and Hyde Club in Times Square, but if you're bedridden dahhling, you can find her on TV in roles on CBS, Investigation Discovery and several films on Amazon. msKatAssTrophy conquered the NYC nightlife scene as a resident performer for the revolutionary dance movements The Get Down as well as DayBreaker and slayed regularly as a resident GoGo Dancer at the notorious House of Yes in Brooklyn, where she debuted her first burlesque acts and danced with some of the biggest names in music. When we throw it back to vintage times, she spent 8 years of youth as a professionally trained opera/choir singer.. then took a 16 year break from singing.. before returning to her first love just 2 years ago. Now she lives up to the moniker "River City Songbird", singing a lot of jazz and vintage pop as well as a little blues/folk/rock. Come to her last Saturday of the month gigs at Dolce Vita in Tapestry Park!!! Find more of her work at www.kathrynkuhn.com and stay up to date/support her dreams by subscribing to her youtube channel and following on instagram, both: @kathrynkuhn"

If you follow @mskatasstrophy, my raunchier/twerkier burlesque persona, you’ll definitely be seeing more of me, more in costume making and more in the art of burlesque very soon. ;)

I don’t know what international women’s day is supposed to mean or do… but I’ll take any opportunity to reflect on my womanhood. How hard I’ve worked, the losses and challenges I’ve overcome, the set backs, the jumps forward and the consistent growth I’ve cultivated. The hills I have yet to climb, the power and talents inside me and how best to bring them forward with intention and integrity. You know… I hear feedback often from both strangers and friends that I am intimidating…and I used to take that as an insult. I feel I was taught that intimidating was a bad thing for a woman to be. I took it as a comment on how I must be scary or seem mean or up on my high horse. But now after so many explained what they meant by it, I hear it from a very different place. Intimidating women are such because they’re resilient, they’ve been through more than you’ll ever know, they’ve stood in the fire getting burned and still walked out of it, they’re confidence was earned, and there softness now must be earned by others, their direct approach is from deep knowledge of their own needs and limits and their experiences of the world. I am so proud to be an intimidating woman… I hope you’re just as intimidating one day, if you aren’t already of course ;). Because intimidating woman don’t see others as intimidating… they see the spirit, the self respect, the lives they’ve lived, the obstacles scaled, the things unsaid from a person who’s been forced to come to terms with themself, their actions, the cruelty of the world.. and still stand. Intimidating woman are unshakable women.

I did this photoshoot a while back with @justindrainphotography , a lil bit less fit and with the intention to start putting effort back into the dance aspect of my talents. Well recently I’ve gotten the freedom of more time to start building that back up. However, this time, I’m working on the outfits, the body and the routines beeeeefore debut of a show - but you can go ahead and follow my burlesque account to see how it all unfolds overtime ;)
