Happy National PrEP Awareness Day!

In 2025, I went to a @therealmaryjblige concert with my mom, wearing a message I believed was as empowering as her music: PrEP is for Black women.

That shirt eventually sparked a collaboration with @ushelpingus and conversations far beyond the concert. 1,200+ shirts later with so many people sharing how the shirts challenged assumptions about who HIV prevention is for and inspired them to consider PrEP.

Seeing the message travel across the U.S. through @nmachiv USCHA and internationally to countries like Canada, Brazil, and Australia through @aids_conference has been so amazing!

I believe a T-shirt can challenge stigma, shift perspectives, and maybe even influence health behaviors. That’s why I’m excited for the outcomes of IDK Stigma’s Design Lab, where we’re co-creating HIV prevention messages that people want to wear, while also sparking meaningful conversations and inspiring people to take action around their sexual health.

PrEP should be available to anyone who could benefit from it. Here’s to making sure it is visible, well known, and accessible to everyone who wants and needs it. #NationalPrEPDay

Gen Z is the least knowledgeable generation about HIV, according to GLAAD’s 2026 State of HIV Stigma Report. So how do we close the gap?

Tymia “Ty” Ballard (@tymia.db) sat down with HIV and Reproductive Justice Advocate Nina Giddens (@msninacarina) to talk about meeting youth and young adults where they are, building trust, and creating HIV advocacy that actually speaks to a new generation.

Reaching young people takes more than giving them information—it means making sure they feel seen, included, and empowered to use it.

Last month, I attended USCHA 2026 as a speaker and the lead choreographer for @viivhealthcareus plenary, #ForFutureU 🎧🙌🏾✨

Each step of this mission stretched me personally and professionally but I was covered, supported and protected in every moment. To the incredible cast of dancers, thank you from the bottom of my heart for showing up in the fullness of your being and your craft. The unique presence that you all carry contributed to the magic of this moment. It truly wouldn’t have been the same without you!

To the incredible speakers, thank you for sharing your stories with candor and character. I firmly believe that we overcome by the words of our testimonies and the memories you shared that afternoon are carving out a future of community, freedom, and love. To Red Sofa Designs and Lighthouse Creative Works, collaborating with your teams was a joy and the intention you each brought to this project inspired me to show up with no inhibitions.

Last but certainly not least, thank you to my mother @tcjack85 for continuing to show up and show out wherever you go! Your presence in the space touched hearts in a major way and I’m grateful that you got to hear those reactions in real time. A time was had at #USCHA2026! This was my 10th year attending USCHA, and my first time as a @viivhealthcareus employee. We based our presence around a commitment to our future selves, and it’s clear that our HIV community continues to show up with love, creativity, grit, and style, truly #UnitedAndUnbreakable.

From our INCREDIBLE speakers and performers who brought our opening plenary, For Future You, With Love, to life, to my colleagues in ViiV’s External Affairs and Communications, and our partners Red Sofa Designs and Lighthouse Creative Works, I hope each of you is beyond proud of how hard you worked and the ways in which you showed up. I wouldn’t rather experience this with anyone else!

To @nmachiv, congratulations on delivering a conference that continues to evolve while remaining such a meaningful homecoming for so many. Thank you for your partnership and for assembling such a phenomenal planning team.

So proud to have helped organize the first-ever NOVA Black Repro Summit — 400+ Black leaders, advocates, and policymakers together in Chicago reflecting, resting, reconnecting, and imagining what’s possible. Looking around at so many people I’ve learned from, worked alongside, and been poured into by made this one feel especially full circle.

We still have each other. We still have joy. We still have our imagination. Until the next family reunion. 🤎

Nina Giddens (@msninacarina), reproductive justice advocate and founder of Neo Repro Consulting, joined GLAAD at Morehouse College for the Generation Z & HIV HBCU Tour. She left audiences with an important reminder: while not everyone is HIV positive, anyone can be HIV possible. Her message underscored the importance of understanding that even those who may not have historically been seen as a targeted group can still benefit from HIV prevention and care as part of their self-care.

This past Wednesday, ADODI in collaboration with the Bayard Rustin Crown Forum, Spelman Afrekete and sponsored by Gilead and GLAAD, hosted Generation Z & HIV: An HBCU Tour — a powerful and impactful conversation.

From honest dialogue to expert insight, we explored the realities of HIV in the Black community and the importance of awareness, prevention, and advocacy among Gen Z.

A special moment from the evening included Jordan Freeman, President of Morehouse ADODI, introducing an event panelist alongside the President of Spelman Afrekete, Naima Starr.

This was more than a panel, it was a call to action. To break stigma, stay informed, and take care of our communities.
