HUMAN RIGHTS DAY VIGIL: WHAT TO EXPECT

Join us on Wednesday 10 December 2025 at Harmony Square (Dandenong) to grieve, connect, learn and act. We remember journalists, demand an end to their silencing, and commit to standing against genocide.

We will lay out the Press Vests from 4:30PM to 6:00PM. There will be speeches and music from 6:00PM to 7:00PM. Drone sounds will be played briefly, followed by one minute of silence to conclude the vigil and pack up.

Yesterday, the UN Security Council voted in favour of a US-backed draft resolution on Gaza, which endorses President Donald Trump’s 20-point ceasefire plan. It includes the deployment of an “international stabilisation force” overseen by a so-called “Board of Peace” chaired by Trump.

The plan effectively puts Palestinians in Gaza under Western control.

The Australian media has omitted key facts in its coverage of the US Gaza plan. These omissions leave audiences with a distorted picture of the plan, hiding the reasons why Palestinian and human rights groups have denounced it as a “colonial occupation plan”.

Ironically, in a time of blatant media injustice and extreme loss of faith in legacy media, the solution to news fatigue may be to read more news. According to the University of Canberra's 2025
Digital News Report, 69% of us are actively cutting our news intake at the moment, mostly because of its negative effect on our mood (46%), feeling that the news we get is increasingly untrustworthy or biased (37%), or just feeling worn out by the scale and awfulness of everything going on (32%).
