With honour in my heart I get to say that I was a part of the coolest community ever known sprouted from Scarborough by @randelladjei - touching down back home last night to texts showing that those early moments in such a meaningful piece of Toronto were shared at the world famous @nuitblancheto
I am lucky as an artist to be able to say that this organization helped form me as a performer and a person. Visiting schools with @freemase and the group were some of the biggest crowds I had freestyled to at that point in my life. And the fact that we were set in our positive intentions to education and elevate, just became a permanent intention with art and creation after that!
Love to the big homie @mstoddart68 for his wisdom to the group then too. #mentorship matters.
See there that @paul.ab.ohonsi and I were destined to create together then too🫱🏼‍🫲🏽💭✨
So blessed to be able to partake in something that creates a space for artists to learn and grow. God bless. Continued success.

@mstoddart68 says it's not the text or the like. It's the call. The visit. The face in front of you.

"When's the last time we called somebody to check in and say, I love you?"

Cut from the team, then a national champion. Turned away by art school, then thirty years of making history through art. And a message for every West Indian parent: let your child be delusional. The world needs what they're carrying.

How do you describe love?

Mark Stoddart says it's time. Investing your time.

That's what thirty years of his art looks like. Time spent honouring Black athletes, entertainers and public figures, on canvas, on stages, and on the shoulders of people like Colin Kaepernick and Kardinal Offishall.

We talked about Scarborough to Oakville. The Third World Bookstore. What it means to give your time to something you love.

The full conversation drops this afternoon. Drop your love in the comments and I'll send you the link as soon as it's live. ❤️

**NEW VIDEO**🚨 📽 #MomentsofMovement #Moment151 is the incredible @EsieMensah 🇬🇭🇨🇦. When the opportunity to collaborate with Esie came up the time couldn't have been any better. I didnt hesitate. This moment📷 was 6 or 7 years in the making from when @mstoddart68 connected us and even before that @flyladydi introduced us before this series was ever even conceived 💭. With possibly a little nudge from @kwasi.obeng she found time in her busy schedule to connect. On the day she felt this classic🎙 @zatakiwon song🎵 "Home" 🏠that I dug up the night before the session. We filmmed📹 in the forest 🌳behind the brickworks. Being the powerhouse💥 that she is, Esie only needed the one take to create this inspiring performance. Esie connected immediately to the music🎶 to manifest this joyful moment⌛️, dancing with the fading daylight🌄. I am so grateful🙏 for exchanges like these where I am able to learn so much about an artists🎨 journey and what it looks👀 like to love🧡 your art practice so much that even after achieving so much and all of the accolades it can still be stripped back down to its very core which is the music🎼 and their instincts to move. This unexpected moment with Esie rejuvenated the feeling that calls ☎️me to continue this work. It's hard not to get emotional when I think about all the artists🎭 that have trusted me enough to be💫 vulnerable in front of my lense📷. As always thank you to my talented producer/queen👑 @yencaballero for the continued support. Did you feel this moment? Let me know what you think💭 in the comments below⬇️.

Just wrapped a conversation with artist, educator and graphic designer MarkStoddart for Let's Talk, and I'm still smiling.

Stories from Scarborough to Oakville. The Third World Bookstore. Thirty years of art honouring Black athletes, entertainers and history makers. And a beautiful thread through it all: empowerment and allyship, lived out loud.

Episode drops next week. You'll want to sit with this one.

This picture holds great meaning to me. It represents my Jamaican culture and my love for my late and great Dad, Henry Harris.

As a young girl, growing up, even just before he passed, he would tell me that I was “likkle but tallawah” a phrase known to represent Jamaica’s small size but strong and mighty character and when he said it, we would both laugh. He would always tell me that I’m “not easy” and call me “Champion”. Most of all, hearing those words made me feel proud that my Dad saw the strength, resilience and potential in me which after his passing, continues to pour out of me every day.

The pendant on my necklace reads, Dad 🤍 09.08.29, his birthday, and my outfit couldn’t be any more perfect. My father soaked me in ska, rocksteady, roots reggae, dub and reggae music my whole life and it is literally my heartbeat. It is the one thing that represents who I am, how I feel, what I believe in, no matter where I am.
