A tutorial on animating your drawings from our last figure in motion session! @procreate has an animation assist feature that makes animating pretty intuitive and easy. If you have animated your drawings from our ghost themed session please tag us and our model @jinny_and_tonic! We’d love to see what you’ve made.
A tutorial on backgrounds and effects will be up soon!

This is the first time I’ve structured a session specifically on animation frames. I love exploring different ways to incorporate figure drawing learning! We’ll have more of these motion study sessions soon. 👀

@itfiguresdrawingclub This coming Wednesday, we’re capturing a ghost frame by frame. 👻✏️

For Figure in Motion, our model Jinny Ryann will move through a sequence, holding each position long enough for us to draw it before shifting into the next like we’re drawing the individual frames of an animation by hand!

I’ve brought tracing paper for us, so as the drawings accumulate, each previous pose will remain visible beneath the next. By the end of the night, you’ll have a whole sequence of movement: a figure appearing, transforming, and disappearing across the page. This is of course optional! It’s also cool if you wanna simply just draw without this challenge

We’ll move between quick 2–5 minute poses and more developed 5–15 minute studies, then return to shorter poses to complete the sequence. Afterward, you can scan your drawings frame by frame and turn them into your own little ghostly animation. 👻

WEDNESDAY, SEPT 9
6–9 PM · $20
📍 The Pop Hop — 5002 York Blvd, Highland Park
✏️ BYO drawing supplies
📄 Tracing paper provided

No animation experience necessary!! Just come draw with us.

Still riding the high from last night. 🥹✨

Thank you to everyone who came out for Art in Motion, our first experiment bringing figure drawing into a live burlesque show.

A bunch of artists brought their sketchbooks into The Good Nite and spent the evening drawing 2-minute poses, performances in motion, and all the quick gestures in between. It was such a joy watching everyone take on a completely different kind of observational drawing and seeing what each person chose to capture.

A huge thank you to Stella for inviting us into the world of burlesque, to every performer who shared their artistry with us, and to every artist who showed up curious and ready to try something new. 💌

There’s something really special about artists getting to witness other artists at work. More drawings, reflections, and little moments from the night coming soon. ✨

*again if you see your work and you’re not tagged pls lemme know so you can claim credit for your work!

A quick update! ❤️

We’ve decided to move this week’s Portraiture Musical Chairs session to next Wednesday, July 29.

Another community that shares our space is holding a memorial gathering, and it felt important to give them the time and space they need.

If you have already bought tickets, your ticket will be honored for the new date. If you’re unable to attend, I’m happy to issue a full refund. Just let me know which you’d prefer by Wednesday afternoon July 22nd so I can finalize attendance

Thank you so much for your understanding. We’ll see you next Wednesday for a night of drawing, music, and good company. 🎨✨

A few moments from our Cyberangel session. 🤍

Thank you to everyone who came out, drew, chatted during breaks, and made the room feel so alive. It was so much fun seeing all the different interpretations of the same poses.

And of course, thank you to our wonderful model @luciabies for embodying our cyberangel with so much grace.

Until the next one! ⚙️🦾We’re having a portraiture musical chairs session with an indie sleaze summer playlist! Don’t forget to get your 🎟️ in the bio.

Fun fact: I made this mecha headset as a pair of “wings” for our Cyberangel session. ✧ Heavily inspired by @yunmago’s incredible work. It felt like such a full-circle moment to build this prop, see it come to life on our model, and then get to draw from it alongside everyone. Thanks again to everyone who came, and especially to @luciabies for bringing such ethereal energy to every pose. 🤍

We’ll spend the evening rotating seats, drawing one another, listening to an Indie Sleaze Summer playlist, and filling sketchbooks with portraits of familiar and new faces. Every round offers an optional prompt if you’d like a creative challenge, but you’re always welcome to simply enjoy the act of drawing.

Whether you’re coming to practice, meet other artists, or just spend a few hours offline, we’d love to have you.

Bring your favorite drawing materials. All levels are welcome.
