Watching the video of the finish of last Saturday's Cranmore Mountain Race with @remi_leroux_ and @david.a.sinclair.92, made me think about how rare it is to see an elbow rubbing, sprint finish like that in mountain and trail racing. Of the many races I've photographed, I can only think of a couple races where this has happened. And while I missed Remi and David's moment, I captured the other two.

The first photo is from the Northeast Delta Dental Mt. Washington Road Race in 2019. Brittni Hutton Birdsong and Heidi Caldwell battled it out to the tape. Officials consulted photos on the back of my camera to help make a decision and ultimately it was determined a tie. The second photograph is from the 2011 US Mountain Running Championships held at... wait for it... Cranmore Mountain. Kasie Enman had already won the woman's race and would be World Champion that year. The rules at the time stated only the top three made the US Women's team and a chance to compete at Worlds. In this photo, you see three of the best women's mountain runners of that time... Brandy Erholtz, Meghan Lund and Amber Reece Young. They're about 75 yards from the finish leaving it all out there for those last two spots . The trio would finish in the order you see here. Personal side note... this was the third race I ever photographed and is probably one of the primary reasons I developed an interest in photographing races.

As always, I feel lucky to have been the person behind the camera in these moments.

🍁 55 MPH WINDS, MOUNTAIN ROADS & FALL COLORS STRAIGHT OUT OF A DREAM! 😱

If you’re planning a fall foliage trip to New Hampshire, add the Mount Washington Auto Road guided van tour to your bucket list! 🍂⛰️

We were invited to experience this incredible adventure, and it turned out to be one of the most memorable experiences of our trip!

🚐 Check in, hop into a van, and get ready for a thrilling ride up a historic mountain road dating back to 1861!

🍁 The fall foliage along the way? Absolutely breathtaking!

😅 The narrow, steep road? A little scary! We were definitely glad we weren’t driving ourselves.

☁️ The most unforgettable moment? Driving right into the clouds, with wind gusts reaching around 55 mph!

Unfortunately, snow and dangerous weather conditions meant we couldn’t reach the summit, but the adventure and dramatic mountain views were still worth it!

✨ Travel tip: Mountain weather can change quickly, and summit access isn’t guaranteed. Check current conditions before your visit and consider a guided tour if you’d rather leave the driving to an experienced driver.

📌 SAVE this for your New Hampshire fall foliage itinerary!
