It’s my birthday! 🎉💚

Every day, I’m grateful for the opportunity to return home to West Virginia, serve the state I love, and lead the @mu_coepd .

If you’d like to celebrate with me, I can’t think of a better way than giving back to COEPD and supporting the students, faculty, and programs that make a difference in our communities.

For those who would like to give, here are two opportunities to support our college:

💚 COEPD Catalyst Fund:
https://give.marshall.edu/project/26398/donate?des_id=720915

💚 College of Education and Professional Development Annual Fund:
https://give.marshall.edu/project/26398/donate?des_id=154713

So thankful for another year, the opportunity to do work that matters, and the people who make it all worthwhile.
Go Herd! 💚

🍂🎃 Mission in Action Monday 🎃🍂
This week, we’re highlighting one of our favorite fall traditions, the Annual Pumpkin Drop at the WV Makes Festival on Marshall University’s campus!

The Pumpkin Drop brings together creativity, problem-solving, engineering, and community engagement as participants design and test ways to protect their pumpkins from a dramatic drop. It’s a fun, hands-on experience that sparks curiosity and encourages innovation for learners of all ages.

Thank you to everyone who helped make this year’s Pumpkin Drop a success. Together, we are inspiring the next generation of thinkers, creators, and problem-solvers! #marshalluniversity #coepd #juneharlesscenter #wvmakesfestival

This summer student assistant Ms. Sage led both classrooms in a collaborative project around Bug Hotels 🏨 While studying abroad this summer in Ireland she took notice of these tiny wooden structures in cities and on trails and felt inspired to share this with the children who had been studying other habitats. She took advantage of our forest school days to show the children different bugs and collect materials that might encourage them to live closer to our school. The children studied books about bug houses and habitats, drew up blueprint designs, named the hotel, built the house frame, then furnished the rooms. This work was a beautiful balance of child-led interest, adult experience, and learning for both parties. Ms. Sage bravely used her first power drill and helped children do the same! We can’t wait to see who moved in this past week! 🐞🐜🪲

We recently wrapped up two wonderful days of professional learning at the MUEE STEAM Center! 💚

Day 1 focused on our philosophy, program logistics, and strengthening relationships within our teaching teams as we prepared for the year ahead.

On Day 2, we were excited to welcome educators from the Child Development Academy (CDA) for a day of shared learning and collaboration. Together, we explored the importance of play, intentional interactions with children, risky play, and outdoor learning. We are grateful for the opportunity to learn alongside our CDA partners and strengthen our shared commitment to supporting young children through meaningful experiences.

After two days filled with learning, connection, and collaboration, we’re ready to welcome new and returning friends for an exciting school year at the MUEE STEAM Center! 🍎✨
