Some of the best moments of my adult life have been spent drinking natural wine 🍇 hbu??

If you love nature and ferments and peaceful nights and wood-fired meals cooked with love, you need to visit @elnidalmx & @octagonovinomx — I can’t wait to plan a wine lovers trip. Who wants to join? 🍷

tuesday morning and the bus driver is crying as she passes me,
staring into the sun,
face twisted as tears fall down her face
and the father in the next car swears and pulls down his visor as he ducks,
his son raises a fist
and
i stare it straight in the face,
daring it to blink first

i keep waiting for the other shoe to drop,
maybe it already did
holding my breathe so the jump scare is more of a skip,
a blip then a boo

does it ever get easier to breathe?

Art for the sake of art, because I can. Too often I try and make sense of things. Too many things on my to do list and the time I can feel it slipping, must cross off five things today instead of four, must make it across the finish line ruined and with every drop spent.

I’ve never fallen in love with an entire family before.

At Octagono @octagonovinomx , Marcelo @marcelopcv has created something that feels increasingly rare—a place where strangers become neighbors. People gather around a table for wine, but stay for conversation. Stories are exchanged, connections are made, and somehow people always find a thread that ties them together.

His wife, Mukasha, @mukashaphoto is an artist and photographer whose work fills the space. One photograph moved me. It felt strangely familiar, as if I were looking at a reflection of something I’ve always hoped to protect in myself: freedom, wonder, and a deep aliveness.

A few days later, at a community bazaar their daughters organized with friends, I picked a handwritten oracle card and learned that the two figures in the photograph were their daughters. It felt like one of those quiet moments of serendipity that asks to be listened to. Maybe that’s what moved me so deeply about the image in the first place. It captured something I see in them and in the way they are being raised—free, curious, creative, and deeply alive. The photograph came home with me, an original print that will hang somewhere I can see every day, reminding me of them and the spirit I want to carry forward.

That feeling is everywhere in San Miguel. Neighbors stop to talk on the street. People are genuinely curious about where you’re from and what brought you here. There’s a kinship here that can feel lost in so many places, but somehow remains. The kind of generosity that expects nothing in return. The kind of belonging that can emerge between people who were strangers only moments before.

As someone who listens to people’s stories, I can’t help but notice how many of us are hungry for exactly this. Beneath the surface of our busy lives, there is often a quiet loneliness—a longing to be known, to be welcomed, to feel part of something larger than ourselves. We are more connected than ever and yet, in many ways, more isolated. The epidemic of loneliness is real, I see its effects every day.

This trip reminded me that this way of being is possible, created one conversation, one shared meal, one open door at a time.

All we have is now
Cross that ocean
Hunt dreams
Act weird
Laugh hard
Take risks
Move
Be afraid
Feel your heart pump
Hands sweat
Laugh harder

Invest in (creative) friendship. Invest in people who talk you out of an arrest. People who give you the keys or their house the first day you met. People who take your kids and share their food and wine with you. Don’t whine about the people who don’t, invest in them who do.

I am still fueled by the days I’ve spent with @mukashaphoto. Thank you for having us and for swimming in each other’s energy.
