Let's meet four inspiring AAMEP 2022 delegates who are passionate about advocating on behalf of their communities and making sure that everyone's voice is heard!

In her role as the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos' Socio-Economic Development Management Officer, Amanah helps to address the dire economic situation of Muslim migrant trader communities in south Luzon. As a Shariah Counsellor-at-Law and a core drafter for national Shariah Integration she works towards harnessing the powerful potential of the Philippines' Shariah legal system to alleviate their struggles. A woman of many talents, Amanah is also Community Manager for The Quiapo Muslim Town Immersion Tour in Manila.

Andy is passionate about the community and volunteers as a Victorian Multicultural Commission, Regional Advisory Council Member and a Wyndham Anti-racism Support Network, Working Group Member. He gives voice to the experiences and grievances of diverse local communities in Melbourne's west to tackle issues from racism and faith-based violence to employment and housing by working collaboratively to identify positive solutions. As an Evaluation and Review Officer with the Inspector-General for Emergency Management Andy works collaboratively across the region to continually improve and raise awareness of Victoria's emergency management arrangements.

Nurainee is committed to building peace in Thailand's conflict affected south, where she monitors and reports on the conflict in her role as a Data Scientist and Analyst with Deep South Watch. Nurainee seeks to improve access to education through summer camps for local students, and is passionate about alleviating the mental health struggles of women affected by the conflict.

As the Community Development and Advocacy Officer for Islamophobia Register Australia, Sana is passionate about improving access to justice and healing for victims of Islamophobia. She loves the opportunities her work provides to establish relationships with diverse organisations, and build bridges of understanding between Muslim and non-Muslim Australians. “A moment comes when it is not possible to exist without being subject to the radical and deep tension between good and bad, between dignity and indignity, between decency and shamelessness, between the beauty and ugliness of the world. This means that it is not possible to exist without us assuming our right or duty to choose, to decide, to do politics,” (Freire, 2008:51).

Are you 18-24 year old or know of someone who might be interested in this leadership development program with the @multiculturevic?

The Multicultural Communities Leadership in Action Program builds the capability of multicultural and multifaith community leaders to engage effectively with the government and their own communities. It provides leaders with the tools and information to more effectively mobilise their communities, which is especially important in times of crisis and emergency; such as the COVID-19 pandemic.

Developed and delivered using a genuine co-design approach with community, the Program runs dedicated streams for women and young people, as well as a generalist stream. Participants complete two, half-day sessions, and are invited to a graduation event where they can build on their new network of hundreds of fellow participants and government stakeholders.

Always a pleasure to support and work alongside this legend and friend, @parsu2017 👊🏼 Honoured to be part of the Marchang Ceremony (ceremonial offering to deities with a special prayer) followed by a contemporary offering of song and dance to celebrate the National Day of Bhutan 🇧🇹 at this elegant gala dinner. Love being dressed in a gho or g'ô (Dzongkha), the national dress for men in Bhutan which, although it doesn’t look it, is worn as tightly as a corset, but it still fails to slow down my eating 😝! #garyleecious #gho

Thank you to our special guests, Minister for Multicultural Affairs @rosspencemp and a host of other VIPs who joined us on the day. Bhutan is definitely in my list of places to visit one day 📝! #garyleecious #gho #ChristmasInMelbourne
