MURAL TRANSFER METHOD: The Doodle Grid! 🎨

When I first started painting murals, the scale was always pretty intimidating and I had a hard time finding resources online that helped with that. I love sharing my knowledge so I thought I’d break down this low-tech method of getting your design on the wall.

This method of transfer is especially useful to know when you’re first starting out mural painting because you don’t need a ton of technology, or fancy tools/resources. I taught this method as part of my last Mural Mentorship Program and they did so well with it!

Here’s my step by step:

1. Doodle all over your wall:
Fill it with random shapes (letters, symbols, squiggles). We kept ours ~4” for a detailed design.

2. Take a straight-on photo:
As flat + centered as possible!

3. Add your design digitally:
Drop your mural artwork on top (iPad or Photoshop)

4. Line it up:
Stretch + distort until it matches your wall perfectly

5. (Optional) Add an outline layer:
Game changer if you’re working with a team so there’s no confusion on what goes where.

6. Use it as your guide:
Send to your phone (or print it out!) + match it on the wall

7. Paint!
Background first, then build your shapes, eventually the doodles disappear!

Pro tips:
🎨 Use a light version of one of your mural colours for the doodles
🎨 Keep strokes thin for no paint texture buildup
🎨 Design to scale (ex: 20’x8’ wall = 20”x8” file)

Save this for your next mural!

What an exciting and rewarding first few months of the year! I am so extremely grateful for all the amazing opportunities I have had in 2026, and even more grateful for all the love I have in my life. Am also very 😴

1) In February, my partner of 7 years proposed to me the day before my birthday. Friends and family decorated our front porch, and were waiting inside to surprise me. I cried. This day often brings some sad memories for me since it’s the day my Mother passed, so thought it was sweet my partner chose this day to bring a more positive and beautiful memory to the day.

2) The next day (my birthday) we flew to Japan for a 12 day trip with some friends. It was an absolute blast and have been wanting to go since I was little. I love Japanese culture so much, so it truly felt like a dream!

3) When we got back, I drove down to Calgary for a Mural Mentorship program I got into, run by @rachellyondesignco, and learned so sooo much from them! It was such an incredible time meeting my fellow mentees and we all bonded so much from this experience. ❤️

4) In March, I was invited to come to Medicine Hat to @medalta to do an artist talk for a show curated by @shane_golby for the TREX Program run by the AGA. It was an honor being in a space with such a long and rich history, and was my first time being in Medicine Hat! The geography is stunning over there!

5) Finally, I was asked by @punkrockfleamarketseattle to design a flyer for their market, and had so much fun creating it. This is one of my first major designs for someone outside of Edmonton, and felt like a bucket list moment for me!

Now, excuse me while I go nap and hibernate for a few days before Spring Market Madness BEGINS! 💤

The 6 best friends that anyone did have 🤣

I’m still running off the high of this group! When I’m going through my mentorship program applications and selecting the participants that will be working together, it’s always a little nerve wracking….What if they don’t get along? What if the vibes are off?

Spoiler: the vibes were ON! I could not be more happy bringing this group together. All super talented artists in their own ways ready to take on mural painting. They were professional, enthusiastic, and kept me on my toes by bringing super thoughtful questions to the table.

Aside from the learning, we shared bits of our lives, were vulnerable, and created so many inside jokes with each other.

When the time came when someone said “We should do a pyramid!!”, it was a no brainer. The hardest part was figuring out who was going on top. 🤣

Thank you to these 5 for donating their time to spend with me to paint this mural for a great cause. I also wanted to thank everyone who applied for the mentorship program. I wish I could take everyone. Please keep applying! 🖤

Our official mural reveal for @kindred_ab at the @yychomeshows!

This team spent the last 5 days together diving into all things mural related, from start to finish and everything in between. I am so proud of them!

This mural was painted for the amazing local nonprofit Kindred, who provides rapid access counselling and accessible mental health resources for Calgarians. It was designed to create a warm and cozy environment for their offices and programming areas. It was an honour to paint this for them.

Thank you to this cohort of mentees for being so sweet, fun, and eager to learn. I adore you all!

Thank you to @yychomeshows for having us once again and a huge shout out to our booth sponsors:

We had such a fun day today, making a big dent into our 20’ mural we are painting for @kindred_ab!

I did an interview with @globalcalgary, met so many interesting people willing to share their own stories about art and their own lives, and got to see a bunch of familiar faces - thanks to those who stopped by!

Thank you to my sweet team for embracing each other and for the stories and laughs today.

Keep checking back to watch this mural transform over the next few days. Even better, if you’re in Calgary, stop by the show until Sunday! Full details and free tickets are in my bio. 🖤

Thank you to our booth partners: @yychomeshows @cloverdalepaint @diytrainingcenters
