Identity is life’s big puzzle. These pieces are the result of a conversation with myself, with my hometown and with Norteño culture.

You can see these works at our Identity Art Festival at Kopfbau Riem 🤠

Thank you all for coming and listening to my talk about my recent work, as part of the IDentity Art Festival. And a big thank you to the amazing women of @munichwallflowers for creating a space where we could come together and feel connected 🤍

We touched on many things yesterday: belonging and authenticity, displacement, motherhood, queer belonging, care, and the systems and structures we live within. Taking a bottom-to-top approach, we moved from personal experiences towards broader questions about how these structures shape the ways we live, relate, care, and belong.

I'm grateful for the openness, curiosity, and thoughtful exchange that followed. Looking forward to our next conversations ✨

The IDentity Art Festival is still ongoing, so check out their programme and join the other events! Find the full programme on @munichwallflowers

My recent work was supported by @culturemoveseurope and @goetheinstitut.A special thank you to @goetheinstitut_bulgarien for giving space to an artist-mother and making this research possible in the first place 🌷

A selection of photographs from my series 𝘉𝘢𝘣𝘢𝘢𝘯𝘯𝘦 can be seen at the IDentity Art Festival by @munichwallflowers until October 10th. This is actually the first time I'm presenting this series, so I'm really happy to finally show it in a context that feels so relevant to the work!

This is a short video from one of the slides I’ll present during my talk on Sunday, 27 September at 7pm, titled 𝘉𝘦𝘵𝘸𝘦𝘦𝘯 𝘏𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘴: 𝘖𝘯 𝘊𝘢𝘳𝘦, 𝘐𝘥𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘪𝘵𝘺 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘉𝘦𝘭𝘰𝘯𝘨𝘪𝘯𝘨, as part of the festival. I'll be sharing my latest research and talking about memory, family, motherhood, belonging, and displacement — or, more simply: 𝘪𝘥𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘪𝘵𝘺.

It’ll also be an open discussion, so I’d love to hear your stories. If you’d like to join, you can find the link in my bio. Looking forward to seeing you there! ✨️

P.S. The choice of song for this video is deliberate. I love this song and its lyrics, which speak about the passage of time and life passing from one generation to the next. 🌷

Babaanne (2017–ongoing)
Babaanne, meaning “paternal grandmother” in Turkish, is an ongoing photographic series made during Aydın's visits to her grandmother’s village in Turkey. Following her grandmother on her daily walks, the artist photographs her movements and the landscapes she has moved through all her life. Through these repeated visits, the work reflects on aging, ancestry, and identity across generations and places. While her grandmother remains rooted in this familiar setting, Aydın moves between places, carrying photographs and memories with her. The grandmother becomes a connection between past and present, while her village becomes a place through which the artist negotiates belonging.

Wimmebild - A wimmelbild is a German word for a busy picture, hidden object picture, or picture puzzle in English. It is a detailed illustration or painting filled with a massive number of tiny figures, animals, and objects engaging in different actions at the same time.

A quick look at my Wimmelbild for @munichwallflowers IDentity festival from 24.9 - 10.10 at @kopfbau_riem. Final piece coming soon.
