Once upon a time there was a Muni project! Muni tested a double-decker bus on San Francisco streets from December 2007 to January 2008. Riders could even ride it for free during the pilot.

FUN FACTS:

• It had 83 seats, compared with about 55–57 on Muni’s articulated buses.

• It was only 40 feet long, despite carrying more seated passengers.

• 85% of surveyed riders preferred the view from the double-decker.

• It handled San Francisco’s hills just fine. The bigger issue was overhead clearance.

• It averaged about 3.5 MPG, compared with roughly 2.3 MPG for Muni’s articulated diesel buses at the time.

• This wasn’t Muni’s first double-decker experiment, they had also tested one in 1990.

So why didn’t Muni keep it? Slower boarding, short average passenger trips, clearance issues, and maintenance facilities that weren’t designed for 14-foot-tall buses ultimately made articulated buses a better fit.

Would you ride one if Muni brought them back? #BayAreaForever

I'm 39 today! Well officially at 2:55. At that time I should be in the middle of the another day of a sewing class I've been taking. Sorry this has been just a bday account recently lol The past year started with my friends and I taking over the Simpsons bar and that set my expectations for the year really high and I think they were met! I ended it with a tattoo from my friend @jess_koala_tattoo yesterday (I circled it in case you didn't notice - it's Ghostwriter!) as well as seeing our friends Susie and Aimee in their band Quaaludes at Bottom of the Hill and during the day I got the new Valkyries library card and my Muni bookmark for the latest reading challenge from SFPL. And the day before I turned in my photo that will be up at a @goldengatecoop sponsored show this Saturday! Info's on the flyer next to my head. Anyway, continuing my new IG bday tradition of photo collages of awesome things through the year. There are soooo many photos I could have included and I probably shouldn't have chosen the skinny rectangle layouts but anyway, if you haven't stopped reading yet, there are some rough themes here and IG is allowing captions under each photo now so swipe for more!

1) Some of the many birthdays I got to celebrate. Not all are in these photos but I got to dress up in costume for some and three were for my friends kids!

2) Hanging out with my cat. I couldn't even tell you how many photos I have of him. He's 17 btw.

3) Hobbies including some old and new ones. I attended my first Valkyries games this year, my first ever hockey game (go Oakland Skates! I also got season tickets for them) I got into embroidery and solo board games and continuing archery, cookies, trivia, reading (64 books since last year!) and photography including organizing a show with friends this past December doors away from one of the places I grew up

4) Unexpectedly meeting famous people I admire including Jon Miller (Giants announcer), 54 Ultra (over FaceTime and I got to show him a photo of me dressed as him for last Halloween), and Adam H Johnson who hosts the podcast Citations Needed and authored one of my favorite books from last year, How to Sell a Genocide which has proceeds
