A little dump of some of the things I’ve been up to the past couple of months.

Apollo is setting in quite well to our lil fam.
Helped a friend move.
Saw a tourist trap of days past.
Had a tasty cortado in tasty light.
Drove to Damascus, VA.
Hung out with a few friends at Trail Days.
Drove to the New River in NC.
Spent some time in nature.
Learned how to use a sling.
Canoed for a couple days.
Had meaningful conversations.
Spent some time engineering how to secure a hammock across two picnic tables while fireflies flittered about.

Bring on the summer.

November! Beaches. Glamping in a globe. Mountains. My first in person engagement with work. Pumpkin pie. Dogs. Good food.

It was a pretty good month.

Okay. So the summer is kinda a blur. But here’s the very short of it in highlights

🏡Multiple trips to Charleston to find a place to live
🍍Moved to Charleston
🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿Sisters wedding in England, world premiere play in Bath, explore London
🪶Atlanta trip with Aajay for Andrew Bird
💒Sisters wedding in DC for stateside family and friends
🍎Trip to Michigan with Holly Amanda Briana

I’m tired thinking about it all - but what a delightful time - and more airplanes in the last 6 months than probably the last four years combined 😂

I’m enjoying Charleston. It’s such a cool city. And feels like staying here for a while will be good for us.

It’s Aajay’s birthday today, so why not post about a trip we took together back in April?

He I went on a little camping and fishing trip to the Conasauga River. Our first night was a blustery one in North Georgia and then we pivoted and ended up in southern Tennessee for the other two nights.

You get to have different kinds of conversations when you camp together. It’s healing and brings you closer. It’s like a sleepover you may have had as a kid but instead of playing GoldenEye, you’re talking about feelings. He’s moving out of state next month so it was great to be able to spend some time together.

It was also my first time trying out my @durstongear tent that I’ll be taking on my AT hike next year. It was super cozy and easy to set up. Can’t wait to use it on trail for 6 months.

This trip was also brought to you by @michterswhiskey.

I love my little Fuji X100T. I carry it with me most days to photograph the places I go and people I love. It looks like an old film camera and I kind of treat it like one in that sometimes weeks or months go by between when I take a photo and when I download and look at it. It’s always a fun little treat for me.

These are just a few from the past few months.

A little over 3 months ago, Andrea and I planned to do the ITAYG (“Is That All You Got”) Loop in the Linville Gorge Wilderness in North Carolina. The 20-ish mile trail takes you down into the gorge and then across the Linville River, following it for a few miles until you hike back out and along the rim back to where you started. We knew that the river was going to be a pretty significant crossing so we had been monitoring the water levels in the weeks leading up to the trip to make sure it was safe. There wasn’t much rain in the days before we left, so we thought we would be good to go but, alas, on the way up there it rained. We decided to hike down anyway to see how it looked and were greeted by a crossing that would have required some line rigging to send our packs across and swimming in some pretty turbulent water. We decided against it. There seems to be a theme developing on trips like this where things don’t quite go the way we plan them so we have become pretty adept at pivoting. (cont. in comments)

Our next thanks is to @murphyaajay, who showed up in a mirror reflection in KISS THE BLOOD OFF MY HANDS (1948)—which is also maybe the most noire-y title of all time. Thanks for your support Aajay!
