All December, every baby born at MUSC Health Lancaster Medical Center goes home with their very own Christmas stocking!

This cherished tradition, started by our Volunteer Services team and kept alive by generous volunteers and the Bethlehem Baptist Church Sewing Ladies, brings joy and makes the holidays extra special for families welcoming a new little one.

Each month 125 comfort bags are sewn and filled with toiletries and other useful items. Today the Monka Foundation was able to give their donation to Dr. Jezabel and her lab. This donation is a combination of our 4th annual Moonlight with Monka Gala as well as the CRP golf tournament.

Thank you to all of you who continue to support the Monka Foundation. Your generosity and contributions are going to a lab right here in Charleston, dedicated to researching pediatric brain tumors.

During our visit today we found out that this lab needs a specific microscope for what they are working on right now. We were beyond thrilled to be able to hopefully contribute to this microscope. The work they are doing is incredible for pediatric brain cancer. Unfortunately, because of the cuts in funding research needs all the help we can give it.

The Monka Foundation has committed to supporting Dr. Jezabel and her lab until hopefully one day we get the call that it’s no longer needed because they have found a cure not because they can’t continue their work due to the lack of funding.

Our children deserve this commitment, our children deserve funding for research, our children deserve a cure.

We can’t do this alone and have not had to. Thank you for walking along with us, thank you for helping us keep Insley’s legacy alive.
Insley’s life was taken by a brain tumor but her 9 years of life was all about love and kindness. We hope to share her heart for the rest of our lives. 🤍

It had been a while since we last made it down to Charleston, but today we had the joy of returning to MUSC Shawn Jenkins Children’s Hospital - and we didn’t come empty handed!

This delivery included:
▪️300 stuffed animals
▪️200 @copperpearl swaddles
▪️82 @louloulollipop swaddles
▪️200 children’s books
▪️140 Copper Pearl bibs
▪️120 journals

We are so grateful for the ongoing support that makes deliveries like this one possible. Every donation helps us provide comfort, joy, and a little bit of normalcy to children facing tough days in the hospital - and reminds their families that they’re not alone. 🩵

At just seven years old, Jayden Schnall suffered multiple strokes caused by a rare condition. Today, he's a healthy high school athlete thanks to the neurosurgery team at MUSC Children’s Health, who never gave up on finding answers.

“Honestly, one of my goals is that he lives his life never thinking back about it,” said Dr. Ramin Eskandari.

Today is International Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia Day 💙

As we barrel down the road called life, this part of our family’s, and mostly Mac’s, story isn’t known by people we come across. But it defined everything this little boy is….a true miracle and warrior!

CDH is a rare birth defect where part of a baby’s diaphragm doesn’t close in development and this allows their abdominal organs to sneak up into the chest cavity while in the womb. The diaphragm isn’t the issue though. The issue is that their lungs don’t have room to develop and they are born without the ability to breathe on their own. Mac was born with a left lung 1/3 of the size that it should be. But they are warriors, and if caught before birth, cared for by the right hospital and medical team, and with a lot of prayers, 50% survive globally. The statistics improve pending being born in a developed country and at facilities that have experience with CDH and a Level IV NICU with ECMO capabilities.

What can you do to raise awareness for CDH?

1. Always recommend and request 3rd trimester ultrasounds. This is where the majority of CDH cases are discovered (including Mac’s at 32 weeks). This allows time to prepare mentally, make a care plan, and even change hospitals. We would’ve lost Mac, if we didn’t know ahead of time.

2. Donate to causes like @cdhinternational and @mytinyhero to raise awareness and research on CDH.

3. Know Mac’s story and share it so other families that go through this battle can be in it together!

4. Don’t ever take the miracle of pregnancy and healthy babies for granted. The amount of things that have to go RIGHT to leave the hospital with a healthy baby are immeasurable. And many of us have experienced when one of those tiny little steps haven’t gone as planned. Our babies are still perfectly made, but God just had a different plan for them 🤍

Mac will always be at risk for reherniation, but he’s done so well that we don’t have to have follow-up X-rays but every two years now! He truly is a miracle and the main reason for The Stasiukaitis Family’s core value of RESILIENCE! We are so proud of you, buddy!
