Music producers will spend 40 hours tweaking a snare but zero hours meeting people who could change their careers.

If you’re a music producer, DJ, independent artist, or music industry professional looking to grow your career, @musictectonics Music Tectonics is worth checking out.

I’ll be attending Music Tectonics 2026 from October 27–29 in Santa Monica, California.

The conference brings together music technology companies, record labels, publishers, artists, managers, and industry professionals to explore the future of music.

We’ll be talking about music production tools, AI in music, music rights management, artist discovery, audience growth, and new ways for independent artists to monetize their work.

On October 27, the Creator Fair takes place on the Santa Monica Pier, bringing together 100+ artists and music producers alongside major music technology brands like Shure, Roland, FL Studio, and BandLab.

It’s an opportunity to meet the people building the tools we use every day, connect with other music creators, and learn how technology is shaping the music industry.

If you’re attending Music Tectonics 2026, let me know in the comments. I’d love to connect with more artists, producers, and people working in music tech.

Get your tickets at musictectonics.com and come say hi in Santa Monica.

Grateful to take part in the Recording Academy’s Music Advocacy Day and meet with @repyvetteclarke’s office in NYC to advocate for music creators in the age of AI.

We discussed three bills Congress can act on now:

NO FAKES Act (H.R. 8915 / S. 4591): protects people from unauthorized AI clones of their voice, image, or likeness.

TRAIN Act (H.R. 7209 / S. 2455): helps creators determine whether their copyrighted work was used to train generative AI models.

Protect Working Musicians Act (H.R. 9253): allows independent artists and songwriters to collectively negotiate fair compensation with streaming platforms and AI companies.

I also spoke about Sureel AI (@sureel.ai) which can identify up to 1,000 artistic influences in an AI-generated track, creating possibilities for attribution and royalties - but that legislation needs to be made for it to happen.

And I shared ReVenue, my proposal to redirect just 3% of existing New York State public arts funding to reach 16,600 more working musicians and performing artists through live performances at local venues.

After more than 20 years as a full time working musician in NYC, I am thrilled @nycmayor, @madein_ny, and @nyculture are increasing grants, and I want more of that funding to reach the artists and musicians who have historically had very little access to it through traditional grants, to help NYC live music thrive in the age of COVID and AI.

That’s the mission behind ReVenue. Give @revenuemusic a follow if you want to see more public arts funding reach working artists, and come see us at @musictectonics in LA, Oct. 27–29.

I’ll be at Music Tectonics in Santa Monica from 27 to 29 October!

This year’s theme is working together to grow the music industry. And I can’t think of a better time to bring a question worth exploring: what happens to the music Al can’t hear?

Most of the data behind today’s music models is Western-centric. And I’m excited to bringing my multicultural perspective to the table, both as a musician, but also as a founder and lawyer - and the work of @motiftechnologies, where we’re building expert-annotated datasets and broader intrastructure so models can learn cultural traditions properly, ethically sourced from the musicians who carry them.
