🎃🍂 AUTUMN SONG SERIES 10: Little Witch! 🧙‍♀️✨

We’re getting closer to Halloween, so it’s time to add a little magic to our music and movement! 🪄

In this fun Halloween rhyme, children use a scarf to wave it up high, down low, and everywhere in between as they pretend to cast a spell! 🧣✨

But there’s more to this rhyme than just movement! 🎶

🧠 Building rich vocabulary: Words like spell and flick introduce children to new language and help expand their vocabulary.

🤸 Developing coordination: Waving a scarf in different directions encourages body awareness, coordination, and listening skills.

💬 Sparking imagination: Pretending to be little witches casting spells invites children to explore their creativity through movement and language.

A simple rhyme can create so many opportunities for learning through play! ❤️

✨ Be sure to check out and follow the wonderful music educator who created this rhyme @musicwithmrgray

🎃 SAVE this rhyme for your Halloween circle time or music and movement activities!

This week’s choir warm up idea💡🍂
Autumn Is Here by @musicwithmrgray

A simple but pretty 4-part round, perfect for celebrating autumn…my favourite time of year 🍁❤️

I’ve changed the feel and given it more of a jazz waltz vibe.
Straight forward to teach and a lovely start to a session to get everyone really listening.

Do you know any other autumn themed rounds or warm ups?
Please share them!

Wow! Being shortlisted for three national awards in the space of a fortnight could almost be embarrassing… but we’re so delighted that our Future Musicians initiative, developed in partnership with Music with Mr Gray, has been recognised in this way that we really don’t mind!

A huge thank you to the judging panel of the Music & Drama Education Awards for shortlisting Future Musicians in the Outstanding Musical Initiative category, alongside such an impressive line-up of finalists.

We’re incredibly proud of this work and looking forward to the awards ceremony in February. @musicwithmrgray

First sounds of Elementary Studio Choir! 👏🎶 This awesome song comes from @musicwithmrgray and just wait until you hear it in canon!! (We'll be doing that next week 😉)

PS how amazing is our pianist @beckybaker81 ?! We are so lucky to have her! She improvised this accompaniment - unfortunately I don't have a recording or sheet music for it, but the chords are on the sheet music for the melody, which is free from @musicwithmrgray !

The sheet music is posted in the comments. If you're having trouble finding it, Mr Gray posts his resources on his Facebook page.

Waves Are Crashing Over Me 🌊 is one of my favorite parachute songs, but instead of a parachute, I love using a canopy scarf for a gentler, less overwhelming sensory experience.

Here’s how it works:

🌊 Hold edges & wave for the verses
🌊 Repeat with with “big waves splashing over me”/small waves/fast/slow waves
💦 Count down 5-4-3-2-1 SPLASH!
🫧 Duck under for “now we’re under water!”

It’s simple, joyful, and endlessly expandable. 💙
