My favorite part about doing wedding florals is the two weeks before the event. I find myself obsessing over all-things flowers whether noticing bud vase arrangements in a movie scene or a bougainvillea bush along my drive on Kaukonahua Road. The flowers and colors pop up and suddenly look more vibrant than before like the scene in Wizard of Oz the moment Dorothy opens the door and step into technicolor leaving behind a black & white world. I’m reminded that inspiration is everywhere!

My least favorite part is over thinking the process & once in a while feeling the anxiety of not being able to deliver (literally and figuratively). But then I look up and see a He’e tree and think of ways to include it in the wedding and forget about what could go wrong and be in the moment of the cool things that can be.

All this to say thanks to T&S for intentionally choosing to support a local farmer/florist like me and allowing me the freedom to make the bouquets, leis, altar flowers, table arrangements, and even the guest gifts (I made mini salves infused with power-plants from the farm).

Thanks to my sister for helping me make the lei po’o for the flower girl, my mom for the greenery assist & letting me raid our backyard garden, and to Kebbo for the onsite assistance and salve labels (hit him up for any graphic design projects, he’s my fave!).

Did you know that I’m also an ordained minister?!? I did it one Valentine’s Day as I sat on the couch. It took 10 minutes and $10. So, I can do your wedding flowers AND marry you two, too!

Forty-eight laps around the Sun honored with 48 waves + 1 for good luck. My greatest achievement yet— I’ve stayed alive & tried my hardest to
give more than I receive. Although the more I give the more love seems to come back my way…

All this just to say how grateful I am to be sharing this time & space with the best mom, the best sister, the best honey-man, the goodest boy, & the sweetest friends. Thank you for another year of unconditional love.

🌊About those waves— they took 4 hours to compete. The wind blew from dawn & grew blustier through the morning. Def more challenging than last year.

The first few waves I caught were good but after the first 15, it became harder to find gems. But after wave 10, a gem did paddle my way, giving me a big, aqua hug & the tastiest 7-Eleven musubi (thanks Chloe @spicyhamacheeee!).

The conditions got even more bad after that but no matter how shitty it turned, every so often things got better even for just a moment—Quick little breathers that help re-set the mind. The bumps & falls can never trump the great rides & moments we spend doing the things we love with the people we love even more. Another life lesson within a surf session.

It seems like such a silly tradition sometimes, but I love it. The physical pain, the mental challenge, & the moments of clarity & reflection—I love it all.

Grateful for @musthrash for sitting in & surfing all 4 hours with me. Cheering me on from a few feet away or a break away 😘. I’m grateful for my dad who still reminds me to check-in with myself often with the question: “If not now, when?”. His death at a young, 59 years old reminds me that celebrating one’s life is one of the best pats on the back you can gift yourself.

But boy am I lucky to have a few that pat my back for me because at 48, it hurts to twist the arm that way! 😘

Here’s to many more years of surfing and turfing 🎉🥳🧑🏾‍🌾

Love in the time of choke big waves. I find this clip so mesmerizing and wanted to share.

Kevin & I found each other inside after this 20+ wave set that lasted more than 20 minutes right at dusk.

The ocean said “you’re done”. And I was like, “yes, ma’am.” All this to say I’m retiring from surfing today. And will unretire in a couple of days…

A year-long project inspired by one simple idea: take care of the places you love. 🌺

Over the past year, Parley’s @mannyaloha has circumnavigated Oʻahu, stopping at every beach park to clean for one hour. The Island Wide Cleanup Project started as a personal challenge, but grew into a demonstration of how small, routine acts of care can ripple outward into the wider community.

“In the beginning, I didn’t really know what beach parks needed, because I didn’t see it for myself,” Manny reflects, “but after cleaning up over 80 parks, I now realize that routine cleaning of every public space is absolutely vital.”

Together, Manny and volunteers from the community that spontaneously joined along the way cleaned up a massive 671,722 square meters along the island’s coastline.

Plastic pollution is not caused by one person or one group — it is the accumulation of countless small moments. “No particular person drops trash,” he shares. “Everyone does, and we all need to do our small part.”

The epic tour will fittingly conclude on June 6, before World Oceans Day, at Wāwāmalu, where @parley_hawaii is celebrating five years of habitat and coral restoration work. If you’re in the area, please come out and join us in celebrating this incredible achievement!

“What the world needs is simple,” Manny shares. “Aloha and Mālama, as Hawaiians say, Love and Care – for the planet and each other.”
