Afro hair isn’t easy to handle — and not every barber is trained to treat it with the respect it deserves.
These are the kind of corrections I make because too many clients have had bad experiences elsewhere.
Precision. Care. Transformation. That’s what Afro hair truly needs

When I first heard about boudoir photography, I thought it was a kind of pornography. All I'd seen were things like Playboy and Penthouse and I thought nudie mags were it.

Imagine my surprise when I realized that ALMOST ALL of my favourite, classic art was actually boudoir. Yes, I'm talking famous stuff from folks like Caravaggio and Botticelli and Gentileschi and Vermeer and Munch and Kahlo. Some of the most influential literary salons in history took place within the boudoir, too. 0% pornography and 100% liberty.

The more I learned about authentic representation of marginalized folks in media throughout the centuries, the more I realized that boudoir (aka private/bedroom) work was a seriously visceral vessel for identity work. The kind of work that goes beyond our internal worlds to change and shape entire cultures. The kind of thing that might’ve been capable of meeting me where I was at.

So I decided to give it a go. Many times. As the photographer AND as the model.
Here's why I LOVE it:

1. there's nothing to hide behind
2. you feel seen
3. you realize that you're already enough

It’s not exaggerating to say that offering boudoir sessions changed the course of my business. And, most importantly, the course of my life!

Looking back, I'm so glad I took the time to explore these sessions in-studio before taking them into the wilderness. Because it taught me how to craft a meaningful experience for someone FROM SCRATCH.

If you've never tried boudoir photography before, what's holding you back? Or, if you're already on the boudoir train and are never getting off, what made fall in love with it? LET ME KNOW in the comments!

In need of a #mondaymotivation ? Posted @withregram • @hellomuka “This photoshoot was one of our most memorable experiences of 2020. It was also our very first professional photoshoot. We had a lot of fun, learned a lot, and met some cool people. One of our goals for this year is to do another one of these again!”

Posted @withregram • @hellomuka “How are you feeling on the first Monday of the year?
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
We had a great time over the holidays to reflect on our growth and achievements, and feel very grateful for small wins we were able to accomplish in 2020. We're not really a "new year's resolution" type of people but we're certaining looking forward to all the exciting things we have in the plan for you guys :)

What about you? What are you hoping for this year?”
