Periodization is a concept used in sports to maximize an athlete’s training. The point of periodization is to set an athlete up to achieve their highest possible performance within a specific time frame. (In this case, during the summer!)

Basically, improving your skills is not just dependent on what and how you train, but also when you train and with what intensity.

While not all dancers perform on a regular basis, any dancer can use elements of periodization to improve their training effectiveness, regardless of their level or their individual goals.

Periodization allows dancers to:
☑️ build strength more effectively
☑️ improve flexibility safely
☑️ reduce overtraining
☑️ improve conditioning
☑️ prepare for competition season

A moment to slow down 🤍

Flexibility is our bi-weekly focus in strength and flexibility class. Dancers slowed down, breathed deeper, and spend intentional time lengthening their bodies. This past week was a reminder that flexibility isn’t about forcing shapes, but about control, patience, and care for the body.

So proud of the focus and calm energy in the room as our dancers continue to grow, stretch, and reset together.

Don’t skip your warm up!

Warming up brings the body to a condition at which it safely responds to nerve signals. This is important for quick and efficient action as well as safe and effective stretching. Simply put, warm muscles are more responsive meaning– they are quicker to contract and quicker to relax.
