What a day it was at the State of the Island yesterday morning at @harborviewhotel! Thank you to everyone who came out to connect, listen, and be part of the conversation about where our Island is headed. Days like this are a reminder of just how engaged and invested this community is in Martha’s Vineyard’s future. ACS Louisville 2026 Day 3 + 4 For someone with dreams of visiting Capriole and hob knobbing with the Mothers of the American Artisanal Cheese Movement- I sure didn't know how to handle meeting Judy Schad (and her farm cats) & Alison Hooper (thanks @lilcurdnerd 🌝). All the love to @cheeseculturecoalition and @zuercher_cheese for making that happen. 1: Fromagerie Sen's Kodou, the cedar bound babe hand carried all the way from Chiba, Japan. Listen to the next episode of @cuttingthecurd for my tasting note word jazz (prelude: bacon and Koshikari* rice). I love that Vacherin Mont D'or is becoming *the* style for non French cheese makers to showcase terrior (cultural AND microbial). Kodou reminds me of Winniemere which reminds me of Rush Creek Reserve etc etc etc. It 'd be a shame if someone did a tasting session/ @dzte2022 exploration on this 🌝 Capriole〰️ Greenville, IN My favorite mom from MV. THE CHEESEMONGER INVITATIONAL! If there’s one piece of advice I can give to cheesemongers who have ever considered competing, all I have to say is DO ITTTTT! You will meet the biggest group of turophile nerd LOVERS and make lifelong bonds you will never regret. Nervous? So is everyone else and the competition is just day 4 of the week! The rest is allll about education and community. Can’t afford it? Talk to your employer to see if they will support you (preparing for this is WORK— and you want to make them proud!), and if not, there are grants given out by various groups (I’ll be looking more into who’s offering them this year). Think you’ll make a fool of yourself? EVERYONE messes up at least one part of this 10-part cheese marathon. Prepare best you can and let go of the rest! This event and the people behind it are so incredibly near and dear to my heart— @adamjaymoskowitz you know I love you forever 🫶🏼 I was first introduced to this singular event back in 2023 and have since competed multiple times, including at the coveted Cheesemonger Invitational Masters last March (funny story about that — there are a lot of Hanna/Hannahs in the cheese world and even though 7th is the best I’ve ever done I got the benefit of getting on that email chain and fairing better than expected). I’ve met the most incredible people along my CMI journey and have cemented so many relationships with the people who make all of our incredible cheeses. I can’t compete this year, but if you can, just do it. June 25-28, 2026 NYC. Some scenes from the last few months! Oscar is now 6 months and Aurora is almost 2 years old. We ended the summer with lots of family walks and late season swims. We survived our first big road trip to Ohio and enjoyed lots of cousin time and a Cedar Point day. I got to steal away for a few days for some cheese adventures in Wisconsin. Aurora rocked a dentist appointment and both kids rocked some vintage handmedowns. The sibling dynamic is developing, as are some fun facial expressions. And I’ve decided that now is as good a time as ever to try learning how to play ice hockey 🙃
