BEHIND THE STRATEGY
The 93rd Academy Awards

The strongest creative systems don’t create uniformity.

They create a platform for different perspectives.

For the 93rd Academy Awards, we asked artists from around the world one question:

What do movies mean to you?

For Artist: Magnus Voll Mathiassen (@mvm_magnus), the answer was unity.

His interpretation explored the idea that every film is built through collaboration. Writers, directors, actors, craftspeople and audiences all play a part in bringing stories to life.

Rather than celebrating a single icon, his work celebrated the collective spirit behind cinema itself.

One question.
One campaign.
A perspective only Magnus could bring to life.

Alog’s sublime EP ‘Islands of Memory’ was released 20 years ago today.

Founded by Dag-Are Haugan (@haugandagare) and Espen Sommer Eide (@esomm), the Norwegian duo brought a breath of fresh air with their unique blend of modern, melodic minimal electronica infused with warm instrumentation and organic textures.

Recorded in the summer of 1999 in Malmö, Sweden, the EP initially never saw the light of day and was lost in the vinyl pressing maze somewhere in Switzerland — until we finally recovered the master tape and released it in February 2006.

Featuring a beautifully designed cover by Magnus Voll Mathiassen (@mvm_magnus) of the @grandpeople_no collective, ‘Islands of Memory’ remains a must-have for any fan of contemporary electronic music.

Listen to it on all your favourite streaming and digital services. The EP is still available on our @bandcamp and through @yoyakurecordstore

Share your best Alog memories with us on the comments.

One year since the release of my 3rd solo album ft. @bit20ensemble & @kingsofconvenience’ Eirik @glambek Bøe. Check the opening "suite".

"With his concurrent solo career, frontman Fredrik Saroea proves that he’s got even more innovative ideas in his musical arsenal: his third album, Lucid Dream (which just came out in October), veers from acoustic-based singer-songwriter tracks to marathon-length bossa nova explorations – along with contributions from BIT20 Ensemble, the virtuosic Norwegian chamber orchestra (with whom Saroea previously collaborated on his 2022 album, Rona Diaries: The Chamber Versions)." — @bigtakeovermag

“The dynamic arrangements by the BIT20 Ensemble are no mere classy embellishment, but a collaboration that pushes Saroea’s voice to greater heights, to match the racking thrill of the strings” – @uncut_magazine

“…all classed up, laying down some serious nylon string guitar work with the BIT20 Ensemble.” – @brooklynvegan

“…a gorgeously sweeping landscape of sounds” – @americansongwriter

If you’ve spent any time in Oslo, or even just watched Norwegian television, you’ve likely seen a lamp by Birger Dahl. His designs glow softly over restaurant tables and café counters, within easy reach of everyday life.

Yet his work also lights the halls of power: the Norwegian Parliament, Oslo City Hall, and the Government Quarter’s high-rise building. Few designers have left a mark as distinct as Dahl’s during a period when modern democracy, and modern design, were both taking shape in Europe.
