I heard someone say:

“If you knew you were 100 rejections away from your dream, think about how excited you would be every time someone said no.”

That stuck with me.

Because in my lifetime, I’ve heard “you’ll never…” more times than I can count.

You’ll never get into Boston College.
I got into Boston College. 🦅

You’ll never get into medical school.
I got into medical school. 🏫

You’ll never get your medical training back in Boston.
I got my medical training back in Boston. 🩺

You’ll never work for Harvard.
I worked for Harvard. 🤓

And there were plenty of other “no’s” along the way that nobody ever saw.

The lesson?

A “no” is not a prediction of your future. It’s just one person’s opinion of your present.

So if you’re chasing something right now and someone tells you it’s impossible…

Keep going.

Maybe you’re not being rejected.

Maybe you’re just getting closer to your 100th no. ❤️

And imagine what could be waiting on the other side of it.

There was a 1% chance that I would ever be in the same room as academic deans from both our IL & AZ campuses and that moment came last Friday, for the Presidential Inauguration of Dr. Joshua Baker.

I was thrilled that all agreed to take a photograph with me!

Last week, our chapter had the privilege to attend the @national_soma Summer Student Leadership Meeting in Chicago 🏙️ where we connected with osteopathic student leaders from COMs across the country to learn, collaborate, and share ideas on strengthening our chapters, supporting medical student education and advancing the profession. Together, we reached a unified student voice on key resolutions being presented to the AOA House of Delegates through the National Osteopathic Student Caucus.

At the AOA House of Delegates we had the honor of representing the Arizona Osteopathic Medical Association as alternate delegates. Being surrounded by passionate osteopathic physicians firsthand showed us how collaboration, thoughtful discussion, and advocacy shape the future of osteopathic medicine. 🏛️
We would also like to congratulate the physicians with the AOMA who wrote resolution H-216-A/2026 which got passed during this AOA house of delegates!! @aoafordos

Overall, this experience was a meaningful reminder that change is built through respectful dialogue, servant leadership, and a shared commitment to improving the health of our communities. We’re grateful for the opportunity to have represented Arizona and look forward to bringing what we learned back to our chapter and continuing to serve our fellow students, our profession, and our future patients.🥼🩺💙

You think YOU have an amazing forelimb? Take a look at deez bones!! 🦴😤

This red fox is an ARCIVES specimen currently helping researchers study forelimb anatomy and morphology in canids.

Groundbreaking science, incredible attitude.
This research is being led by @midwesternuniv @mwuazcom students Haylee Malenfant (hayleemalenfant) and James Aschenbrener (@james_aschenbrener), working under PI Dr. Heather Smith (@heatherfsmith_mwu), with support from @mwuanatomy @mwu_az_anatomy.

Dr. Smith’s lab is actively researching comparative anatomy across numerous carnivoran species.

Haylee and James are pursuing research experience that will further their medical careers — the detailed dissection work is giving them hands-on skills that will directly benefit future careers in surgical specialties. They plan to present their findings at regional conferences, including the Arizona-Nevada Academy of Sciences.

This week I got to go back to my alma mater med school @mwuazcom to meet with students and lecture. It was SUCH a blast from the past ⏮️

After 20 years so much has changed! The campus is huge compared to when I was a student, and there are so many more professional medical programs available now.

Being back on campus brought back alllll the old memories - the stress of medical school, doubts of never making it out, professors that challenged me… and the place where I met my husband, Safi. ❤️

It was wonderful to return to where our relationship began and reflect on just how far we’ve come. Not necessarily as physicians (though that is present), but as PEOPLE and partners.

Revisiting such an important place in our history was surprisingly healing. We caught up with old friends and families. Safi and I rarely travel together due to childcare challenges, and though we had six different shifts to cover across two days, we made it happen! I’m so glad we did.

What a special trip and roundabout moment. Thank you @midwesternuniv AZCOM for having me. I’ll make sure 20 years doesn’t pass before I come back this time ;)
