Preparatory study for 'Ceasefire', my four-panel oil painting reimagining Picasso's 'Guernica' in response to ongoing atrocities in Gaza.

Here's the first look at the finished study and also the reason why this project is titled 'Ceasefire'.

My painting style is nothing like Picasso's but 'Guernica' was my starting point as the most famous anti-war painting in history and so filled with primal pain. I'm finding my own ways to communicate pain and unimaginable loss.

Thank you to photojournalist @alijadallah66 who is allowing me to use his images for reference.

Before the caves and subterranean creatures ever enter the picture, Neil Marshall starts The Descent with pure, blunt-force trauma that permanently ruined driving behind construction trucks. Two seconds of copper pipes through the windshield was all it took to sear an entire generation’s collective driving phobia into memory.
