THE WALL IS MORE THAN BRICKS. 🧱 “Let us rise up and build.” — Nehemiah 2:18 Sunday at Bryant Temple AME Los Angeles was about what it really means to build. Dr. Thema Bryant — renowned psychologist, author, professor, minister, former President of the American Psychological Association, and ordained elder in the AME Church — brought a powerful Word about purpose, Nehemiah, and refusing to come down from the work God gave you. “People can love you and sit on your wings at the same time.” After service, she stayed to sign books and connect with the congregation. My Creole Table also served calas and café au lait to help raise money for our YPD. Calas are historic New Orleans rice fritters rooted in African and Creole foodways, once sold by Black women as a means of survival, independence, and economic opportunity. And then came the biggest moment of the day: Our YPD Vice President came forward and gave their life to Christ — and will soon be baptized. 🙏🏾 That’s why we build. Not just programs. Not just events. PEOPLE. “Unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labor in vain.” — Psalm 127:1 The Word. The history. The service. The next generation. Salvation. THE WALL IS STILL RISING. 🧱 Bryant Temple AME Los Angeles Rev. Dr. Dwaine A. Jackson, Senior Pastor & CEO PEOPLE. PURPOSE. POSSIBILITY. #BryantTempleAMELosAngeles #DrThemaBryant #MyCreoleTable #YPD #AMEChurch FaithInAction DontComeDown

Bonjour Ma Babies!!! 🤎💜☕️ This time I’m taking My Creole Table out of my kitchen and bringing it to Bryant Temple AME Los Angeles! 📅 Sunday, August 30 ⛪ MORNING WORSHIP BEGINS AT 9:00 AM 🍽️ Calas & Café au Lait Fundraiser immediately following service 📍 2525 W. Vernon Ave., Los Angeles, CA 90008 Ma Babies, come worship with us at 9:00 AM, and then stay afterward because we’re not just serving something GOOD… WE’RE SERVING HISTORY. I’ll be making one of New Orleans’ nearly forgotten treasures: CALAS & CAFÉ AU LAIT! ☕️🤎 Before the beignet became the New Orleans celebrity everybody knows today, Calas—sweet fried rice cakes with deep African and Creole roots—were already being sold on the streets of New Orleans. And their story goes much deeper than dessert. In the 18th and 19th centuries, enslaved and free Black women sold Calas on the streets of New Orleans, particularly on Sundays. For some enslaved women, street vending provided a rare way to earn money that could be saved toward purchasing freedom for themselves or members of their families. Think about that. Something as simple as a fried rice cake could represent survival, entrepreneurship, independence and a pathway toward FREEDOM. So when you taste a Cala, Ma Babies… you’re tasting history. And generations later, we’re using Calas to raise money again—this time to invest in our young people. 💜 This fundraiser supports the YPD at Bryant Temple AME Los Angeles, led by Dannay McDaniels, one of the producers of My Creole Table. So I’m personally inviting you: 🙏🏽 9:00 AM — COME WORSHIP WITH US. 🤎 AFTER SERVICE — STAY AND TASTE THE HISTORY. 💜 SUPPORT OUR YOUTH. Bring your family. Bring a friend. And definitely bring somebody who’s never tasted a Cala before! 📍 Bryant Temple AME Los Angeles 2525 W. Vernon Ave. Los Angeles, CA 90008 📅 Sunday, August 30 ⏰ Worship begins at 9:00 AM 🍽️ Fundraiser immediately following worship Come for the worship. Stay for the fellowship. Taste the history. Support the next generation. Because at My Creole Table… Every recipe has a story. Every ingredient has a history.
