The answer to my most recent “can you fine it?” post - the #FlemishBond brick on the #ThomasClark and #MatthewLufburrow Houses was painted white at some point in the 20th century. The paint was subsequently removed (you can take paint Off of brick that wasn’t originally intended to have it). In 2020, I happened to snap a few photos during a short time they had the #shutters shut and you could still see the ghost marks from the previous paint job on the brick. I also posted about this in 2020 and included a photo from an older edition of Historic Savannah Foundation’s survey book showing the midmod paint job. This time I’m including the current (3rd) edition of @myhsf survey book showing the year of initial construction. #savannaharchitecture

The answer to “what brick pattern and which house is this?” - the #FrederickSelleck and #SarahAnnMorris House from 1822 is one the few buildings in Savannah built with #FlemishBond brick pattern. The last photo is from the @myhsf 1968 survey book. Frederick W Selleck II was born in Rome, NY in 1791 and died in Augusta, GA in 1839. The same year he completed his house, he also advertised in the newspaper that he was selling salted bacon, fabric, corn, flour, sugar, coffee, whiskey, and gin.
Frederick and Sarah had several children including a son named Frederick. Born a couple years after this house was built, the son died in 1853 after a decorated military career.

What do you call this brick pattern!? Bonus points if you can identify the building - the @myhsf plaque is a slight clue, but I’ve cropped it in a most annoying way so the date is obscured.
Answers tomorrow! #savannaharchitecture

A beautiful evening celebrating the places, stories, and people that make Savannah so extraordinary. ✨

The Historic Savannah Foundation Gala at Hotel Bardo was a wonderful reminder that preservation is about far more than architecture—it’s about protecting the character, history, and sense of place that make this city unlike anywhere else.

It was also such a pleasure reconnecting with old friends and making new ones along the way.

Grateful to be part of a community that values Savannah’s past while helping shape its future. 🥂

Three Savannah events.

Three wardrobe changes.

One very good day.

Apparently, one outfit was not going to cover this itinerary.

We started at the Teal Walk in Ellis Square, celebrating #OvarianCancerAwarenessMonth.

The Savannah Downtown Business Association turned the walk into a scavenger hunt through City Market, so folks could support small businesses while doing good for a. good cause.

Next, we joined @savannahcruzers for a tour of Laurel Grove Cemetery. In just 90 minutes, I learned so much about the city I call home. We zipped through Savannah’s streets, then cruised comfortably over the cemetery’s grassy grounds in their electric vehicles. I’m all for learning local history when the ride is part of the fun!

Then came #SavannahAfterSunset, the Historic Savannah Foundation’s annual gala supporting the preservation of places that matter to Savannah’s history, architecture, and culture. It was beautifully done.. And yes, it called for wardrobe change number three.

By the end of the day, #FavoriteHusband and I walked, rode, learned, celebrated, and remembered why we love this city so much.

My feet were ready to call it a night.

My spirit wasn’t.

✨ Gala season has arrived in Savannah!

SDBA was proud to support member @myhsf at last night’s annual Historic Savannah Foundation Gala at @staybardo.

This year’s theme, “Savannah After Sunset,” presented by The Kole Family celebrated preservation, community and the places that make Savannah special. ✨

What a fantastic September Lunch! Thank you to everyone who joined us at Churchill’s Pub for an afternoon of networking, community, and conversation.

A special thank you to Danielle Hodes of the Historic Savannah Foundation for sharing insights on preserving Savannah’s history and helping shape its future. We’re also grateful to Churchill’s Pub for hosting us, Clearwave Fiber for sponsoring the event, and Bunny Ware and her team for capturing the day through these wonderful photos.

We were honored to welcome State Representatives Bill Hitchens and Carl Gilliard, who presented House Resolution 1940, commending the small businesses of Buy Local Savannah and recognizing the important role they play in our community.

Thank you to Mia Mance from the Savannah Downtown Business Association for connecting us to the City of Savannah and getting us free downtown parking for our guests!

Want to see more? Check out the full photo galleries and event coverage from WRHQ, Connect Savannah, The Savannah Tribune, Savannah Master Calendar, and the Savannah Business Journal.

Thank you for helping us support and celebrate local business. 💙

Our latest Blight to Bright project is underway! With help from Dum Spiro Spero Management and Kelly Tree Services, we’ve cleared out the home, removed rotted flooring, cleaned up the yard, and addressed roof damage.

Now, we’re moving into the design phase as we work to modernize the home while preserving its historic character. 🏡

Stay tuned as we transform 909 Carter Street from Blight to Bright!

Thank you to everyone who came to my lecture and/or talk about mid-century modern Savannah hosted by @myhsf - Both events were sold out! I brought props to the lecture, but I forgot to pull the last one out of the bag!
One of these images is a snippet from the 1957 #yellowpages showing the architects in town during that snapshot in time. (Some of their kids even came to hear me speak…definitely didn’t make me nervous 🙀)
This isn’t the first time Historic Savannah Foundation has hosted a mid mod event, but the amount of community interest was neat to see.
