POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Yesterday, we welcomed the 127-year-old Marino Persechini Barrel Piano back to New York City for the first time since 1899. Before an evening presenting its history, Tony Gangi of Great American Street Organ brought the historic instrument to life, sharing its fascinating history and the story of Persechini, who purchased the piano in New York in 1899 before beginning a decades-long career performing on the streets of Boston.

Once produced by the thousands in New York, these hand-cranked instruments were a familiar part of American street life—and for many Italian immigrants, they were also a means of making a living.

We were thrilled to see this remarkable piece of Italian-American history return to the city where its story began—and grateful to share it with our Museum and Little Italy community.

🏈On Tuesday, New England Patriots quarterback Tommy DeVito & his agent, Sean Stellato, visited the Italian Home for Children for the second year in a row for Pasta Bowl II!

💜Last year’s charity flag football game is still talked about to this day — by staff and children alike — so we were overjoyed to have Tommy and Sean back at IHC!

🇮🇹‼️ Thank you, Tommy and Sean, for continuing to support IHC and bringing bundles of happiness to everyone here.

💞Don’t forget — this was a charity event! If you’re able to donate, head to our website for more info.

🇺🇸 It was a great pleasure to visit the North End Historical Museum, a true gem in the heart of Boston’s North End, bringing to life the history of one of the city’s most distinctive neighborhoods.

Sincere congratulations to Tom Damigella, President of the North End Historical Society, and the entire Board of Directors for their outstanding work in creating this wonderful museum. Heartfelt thanks also to entrepreneur Frank DePasquale for his generous support.

This place holds a special meaning. At an important point in its history, the North End became home to generations of Italians. Its story is therefore also the story of Italian Americans in Boston: their journey, their contributions to the city, and their integration into its social and cultural fabric.

A must-visit destination for anyone wishing to discover Boston’s rich history and learn more about the communities that have helped shape its vibrant identity.
