Let’s be honest..Youth sports has a money problem.

There’s always another team, tournament, or showcase to pay for—and the sales pitch is always the same:

“If your kid isn’t playing, someone else is getting ahead.”

That fear sells. But is that packed schedule actually helping your child develop?

We expect kids to sprint, jump, land, and change direction all season. When do they get time to build the strength and control those movements need?

More games don’t automatically build that foundation.

Strength training WON’T prevent every injury.

Kids can get hurt even when they’re well prepared.

But preparation deserves a place on the calendar, too.

Taking a season to get stronger, recover, and work on how they move isn’t falling behind.

Before you pay for another season because you’re scared they’ll fall behind, ask:

“Does my child need more games—or time to build the body we’re asking to play them?”

Sometimes stepping back from sport, is actually stepping forward in their future sports journey.

Build the foundation first.

It looks like an obstacle course. It’s also a whole lot of athletic development. 👀

At the FUNdamentals stage of Long Term Athletic Development, kids need chances to jump, crawl, carry, balance, and move in different ways. Today they went over obstacles, under obstacles, and carried a 10-pound ball and other weights—all while racing the clock.

The timer made it exciting. The real win was watching them figure out how to move well, handle a challenge, and try again.

Build the foundation first. The speed and strength will have something to grow from. 💚

The game doesn’t tell your athlete which way to go ahead of time. 👀🏀

Two cones, two tennis balls, and a little competition! The girls run an arc, then change direction on my command—practicing how to react, brake, and push into a new direction.

Planned drills build the foundation. Reactive drills challenge athletes to use it when the next move is a surprise.

Build the athlete..not just the drill. 💚

A little friendly competition makes training way more fun!

These girls have been putting in the work over the last month and it is definitely showing!

So proud of them 🥰
