POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Late to post but A Thousand Nights is finally out! 🎉 🎊

It was an honor to collaborate on this unique anthology with so many inspiring Muslim authors. “The Potter’s Son” is a project close to my heart, and I’m so proud and excited to share it! 💗

Alhamdulillah ❤️ (and I still need to unpack my hardcover 😬)

Thrilled to have a story in this wonderful new anthology put together with so much skill and compassion by @nafizaaz and @booksbyintisar!

These interlocking tales of #refugees seeking a place of safety in a world filled with magic and mystery are very close to my heart!

My story, "The Paradise that Never Was" focuses on escapees from Syria's notorious Sednaya prison, the obstacles they encounter on their journey and the friends they make along the way.

As always, wishing peace and justice to the people of #Syria, #Palestine, #Sudan, #Yemen and all those who have had to leave their homes and homelands behind.

Please check out this collection by amazing Muslim women writers!

Ramadan Mubarak to everyone who’s observing 🌙🤍

I really wanted to highlight some books by Muslim authors this month and… my TBR has officially EXPLODED in the best way possible!!!! I’m honestly in awe of how Muslim writers are out here writing in every genre, like we are truly everywhere and it makes my reader heart is so full!!

Getting to see our stories, our voices, our joy, our complexity on my shelves means so much to me. It feels special, it feels personal, and it feels like a celebration 🫶🏻

Please tell me your favourite books by Muslim authors (and enable my growing TBR even more 👀) or have you read any from this list?

This caption isn’t enough to describe all the ways in which the book community and publishing industry has unfortunately let my community down. Muslim writers rarely make it out of the query trenches and when they do, they usually get stuck with an ugly cover and/or a marketing team that barely lifts a finger for them. Reviewers usually skip even the books that aren’t centred around Islam and those who don’t are often in the 1-3 star category complaining that the book is too ‘Muslim’.

Islamophobia may be a work centuries in the making, but one book is capable of ending misinformation. So, in honour of Muslim heritage month, here are *some* upcoming book releases by Muslim authors that I am excited about!!! Please check out the books, preorder them and support Muslim authors all year long 🫶🏽

Books listed:

1. ‘Aicha’ by @authorsorayab

Ni sa bula vinaka!

It's Fijian Language week here in Aotearoa and I'm celebrating by sharing some Indo-Fijian authors, because I (Nikki) am one too!

The history of Indo-Fijians is a long one, but in summary, many Indians were moved to Fiji to work on sugarcane plantations by the British Raj. Because Indians have lived there for many generations, we've formed our own unique culture and language. Many consider Fiji-Hindi as one of Fiji's languages.

At the end I've included a little guide to a few everyday phrases by the Ministry for Pacific Peoples, and if you want to learn some more about Indo-Fijian culture and language, check out @girmitdiaries!
