Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila announced that the National Policing Bill 2026 is 90% ready for the National Assembly, but what actually is this bill?

While amending Section 214 of the Constitution gives state governors legal permission to create local police, the National Policing Bill serves as the national rulebook. It sets mandatory minimum standards for recruitment, officer training, inter-agency coordination, and oversight mechanisms so state police forces operate professionally without becoming political tools. Constitutional changes create authority, but statutory bills set the operational guardrails.
