POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
People share stories of the dogs from their 20’s - those dogs that are around before you have your first heartbreak, move from house to house, travel unabashedly, go everywhere with you, find true love at your side, and see the beginning of the next chapter unfold.

Dahlia was that dog; my heart dog in all aspects of the phrase. The connection we had feels permanent; another half of my soul and my best and most faithful friend.

My weekend warrior; explorer of the Oregon Coast, the McKenzie River, the Willamette Valley, and the Gorge. She never met a body of water she couldn’t jump in, a waterfall she couldn’t pose in front of, or a downed log she couldn’t conquer. I would hike 5 miles, Dahlia would hike 10 as she scouted ahead - then would double back to herd me into line.

She came to work with me almost every day of the nearly 12 years I was chosen to be her person. She was well loved by clients and vendors/representatives alike. When I was gone, often the concern was “where is that office dog? Where is Dahlia?”. Her bed under the reception desk was a near permanent fixture - and I’m afraid to step through the doors next week to find it gone.

In 2013, when I brought her home, Instagram was just taking off; and accounts for pets were just the thing to do. “Dahlia the dingo” was born, and she grew to be a bit of a celebrity among the Pacific Northwest. Through her notoriety, we made endless friends at various meetups we hosted or attended, and forged several friendships that have persisted over a decade. From PR boxes, to ambassadorships- I’ll always be glad for the community we experienced. (Continued in comments)

First, make sure to scroll to my poorly photoshopped version of the gorgeous photo that I used as inspiration . 😂

We’re still here and Sophie is enjoying life!!! I’m working on a new listing in the shop along with a fundraiser for another dog rescue… I meant to post about all of this July 1st, but umm, here we are... Life gets in the way in the best and worst of ways. In the meantime, please read these beautiful words from my friend, Alta:

“Words cannot describe how much this gift means to me. Instagram has changed in a lot of ways over the years, in my opinion, primarily for the worst. But in its early years, I made invaluable connections with real people I hold as dear friends to this day. I was fortunate enough to meet Lauren in real life once many moons ago, and am lucky enough to still call her friend.

Today she gifted me with a completely unexpected painting of one of my favorite photos Spenser ever took. And she added Mr. Bud leading the pack as he always did. I have some of Lauren’s first paintings she gave me after our first meeting, they still hang in my office, and it’s incredible to see the progression of her art. She captures colors in ways I would never imagine, but that somehow make perfect sense.

After Pe’ahi passed, Lauren sent me an ornament with his portrait and I broke into tears as soon as I saw the envelope, knowing what it was before I opened it. This morning, I woke Spenser up so he could open this with me, and once again we both broke into tears immediately.

Lauren has been going through health concerns with her soul dog Sophie for the past 20 months (I don’t know how she finds the strength to do it) yet has still found time to be a rock for me when I was struggling with Leilani, still sent me supplements and suggesting, and has now given me the most gorgeous piece of art I own. I cannot wait to find the perfect place to hang this. Thank you from the very bottom of my heart Lauren, you are truly a blessing. It also happens to be Nalu’s 13th gotcha day, so this gift feels extra special!”
