i've been looking for this edition of The Bell Jar for almost a year now & @booksbyhind sent me her ANNOTATED copy as a birthday present!!?? i have no words to describe how much happiness and love i'm feeling right now 💌 can't wait to finally read this book aaaa (also how cute are the cards she sent me *tears*)

a very niche obsession of mine is @patricknessbooks 's books so here are two quick reviews of my favourites!

📖 More Than This by Patrick Ness

a wonderfully written fictional story that's great for anyone who loves the conundrum of parallel realities. its genius writing and captivating plot kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time, and as soon as i finished the book i wanted to reread it from a whole different lens. the first few chapters are insanely intriguing but it does fall out a bit in the middle, only! to pick up its pace again until the very end. it is honestly soo worth the time.

📖 The Rest of Us Just Live Here by Patrick Ness

this book was a bittersweet callback to my middle school years lol, as it tells the story of a friend group that are so close. they're about to graduate high school before the world ends which is the classic Patrick Ness fictional twist element that i'm obsessed with. frankly, this whole book tells a strange coming out of age story but that's why i love it so much; it is original in its plot and characters.

as an English Literature major, i'm bound to read a lot of material for my courses which i didn't include here :,) these books are the ones i read for leisure <3

Rifqa by @mohammedelkurd perfectly sums up what's been going on in occupied Palestine for the past 75 years or so. educate yourself; please read this book.

What is currently happening in Palestine is not a war. It is a genocide. It is ethnic cleansing. i stand speechless in this situation where my own people are being murdered and our lands are being destroyed and depopulated.

as a bookstagram account, i feel like it is my responsibility to recommend this beautiful poetry book for anyone who's willing to educate themselves on the matter. i started crying on page 18, and then the tears never stopped. this book screamed to me:
what is poetry, if not a bullet racing to pierce your heart.
what is apartheid*, if not a bullet racing to drop down martyrs from my land, my people.

*i dont believe we can call it apartheid anymore because what's happening right now is purely dehumanising and barbaric. we are way past abiding by the technical terms..

📖 Everything I Know About Love by Dolly Alderton

💌 although this book started off with a rocky start, i quickly fell in love with it after the first fifty pages. i couldn't tolerate the first 50 pages because i couldn't relate to anything Alderton is saying. her description of her teenage years is completely different than mine and i found myself mocking her instead of relating to what she's describing.

💌 however, after giving her a chance, i quickly realised that there's one common thing between Dolly and all of us: we're all trying to figure things out as we go & we're all trying our best while we're at it. her experiences may not be the exact copy of mine as a woman out in the wild, but our thoughts and feelings are more similar than what i have previously imagined. and she has a loooot to say about that.

💌 reading this book was truly life changing. after i finished the last page, i texted all my girl friends and told them YOU GUYS, YOU HAVE TO READ THIS BOOK IT'S LITERALLY LIFE CHANGING!! that is how much i recommend you read this book if you're reading this caption right now. you'll LOVE it 🧚🏻‍♀️

happy book lovers day! 🍂💌📖☕️ do you recall the first book you ever read?

📖 my earliest memory of reading is that of Disney's pictured princess tales books, however i do remember reading Oliver Twist as my first ever book with no pictures! hahaha

📖 books have been my refuge ever since i learned how to read. my mother would buy me children's books so that i could flip through them, and my father used to tell me bedtime stories ever since i was a kid. that is how i fell in love with books, reading, and stories😭

📖 fast forward 18 years later and i'm still utterly obsessed with escaping into worlds of my own imagination that feed on the words i read on paper. forever grateful to have books as my best friends 🤭 and i hope to actually get to read the hundreds of books on my TBR before my days end!!
