POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
Last Saturday, we tried something new: our first off-the-record ZEG salon, in New York.

Live storytelling with Alix Dunn, host of The Maybe podcast, followed by a conversation that opened to a room full of people from very different worlds, to questions, disagreement and different ways of seeing what comes next. A long Georgian supra at Hancock House, Brooklyn, kept the conversations going, and as you can imagine, there was plenty to chew on.

Thank you to everyone who came, talked, disagreed and stayed at the table. We are planning more gatherings, in New York and other cities.

A huge thank you to our co-hosts at the @dorisdukefdn and Freedom Together Foundation for helping us make the evening possible.

And to @chamamamanyc for serving such delicious Georgian food to our guests!

Tbilisi, Georgia, where the ZEG Storytelling Festival happened (ZEG in Georgian is “the day after tomorrow”). Thanks to the amazing ZEG team, led by Natalia Antelava, for putting together an outstanding festival of ideas, art, provocation, and terrific Georgian meals. It’s worth your time to attend if you’re in the region next summer. Thanks to the always astute Razia Iqbal for interviewing me. Thanks to the Stamba Hotel, located in a former publishing house, one of the most beautiful hotels I’ve stayed in (the theme is books and music). Thanks to Gika Mikabadze for taking my picture under the publishing sign.

Thanks to Luka Grigolia for publishing The Sympathizer in Georgian and taking me to his friend’s delightful cocktail bar Antena გია ყანცელი 13, where I ended up debating a random Georgian guy who argued that American universities needed more political balance. Not sure how often that would happen in an American cocktail bar. His friend was thrilled to see The Sympathizer and Luka gave him my only copy (he made it up to me later). I told him he didn’t have to leave me a good review on Goodreads, but he better not leave a bad review.
