I’m a little late in posting but I graduated culinary school 2 weeks ago. Attending @nochi_grams meant the world to me (so much so I’m coming back for seconds and doing the baking and pastry program). It was a long uphill battle, but I made it to the top and graduated as co-salutatorian and got to see Embers come to life!

If you told me after day 1 aka caesar salad day that my culinary school journey would turn out the way it did I would have laughed then cried in your face (Swipe to last picture to see the selfie I sent my mom after finishing day one). Nevertheless, I wouldn’t change a thing about my journey. I am so proud of myself and the challenges I overcame.

However, I would never have reached my goals without my amazing support system at home and at NOCHI.

I owe everything to my mom, dad, sister, grandparents, and my madootz for being my rock during this rollercoaster of the past six months. Your support and pride kept me going to the end and I owe it all to you (especially you, mommy). This certificate is as much yours as it is mine. I never would have dreamed I could do something like this if it weren’t for you guys. Thank you for always wiping my tears, picking me back up, and pushing me forward.

While I had my support system at home, I also had my support system at NOCHI. I never would have believed that I could do this without my amazing culinary instructors and advisors. They made me realize I was not behind, I was becoming! They supported me and lifted me up when I felt I couldn’t on my own. They put up with my many questions, quirks and tears and for that I will forever sing their praise.

I also want to thank my fellow classmates now chefs who have become my lifelong friends. I would not be the chef I am without you, and I am so proud and privileged to have graduated with such incredible talent. I can’t wait to see what your future holds. I know it will be amazing and deserving.

Thank you to everyone who has encouraged me during this journey. I don’t know what my future holds, but I know that I will never have to walk through it alone and for that I am eternally grateful.

Love always,
Chef Emma

Congratulations to Narcisse Burchell, recipient of the Fall '25 Ti Martin Hospitality Hero Award!

This award recognizes a student who leads with heart, professionalism, and a deep respect for service; someone who shows up for others and elevates every space they enter.

Presented by Spring ’25 Hospitality Hero Alvin Johnson, the award was accompanied by a powerful reflection on what it means to serve with intention and integrity. Narcisse embodies that spirit in every way.

My students took on the challenge of blending Louisiana flavors with cuisines from around the world — and let’s just say, the results were lagniappe-level impressive. From gumbo with global flair to jambalaya that traveled the map, every dish brought bold creativity and serious flavor. Louisiana met the world… and absolutely won.

Curious to learn more about how Embers was envisioned? Will Coviello with @gambitneworleans sat down with a few members of the team that pitched the concept to discuss the inspiration behind the menu.
