I had been hoping to see this rare snake species for about a year now, but in late August, my dreams finally came true. Under a rock by the water, @naturalistherps flipped this neonate Brazos water snake (Nerodia harteri). Due to their unique habitat preference of rocky shores along the Brazos River, they are classified as Near Threatened from habitat loss. On that night, we found 3 neonate harteri total, and I’m looking forward to the day I can find an adult. Special thanks to @agiantsperspective and @justin.pittman3613 for letting me tag along, and see this elusive Nerodia that not many herpers get a chance to see.

This week is episode 34 with @naturalistherps!

Connor is as passionate as they come about the species he keeps, and it’s infectious. For those with an interest in obscure colubrids and/or herpetofauna of the Southwest, this is the one for you!
