Artist Spotlight // Meet Austin staple, Kel Brown

Following in the footsteps of other self-taught African-American artists from the global South, Kel Brown’s upbringing continues to shape the tenor of his paintings to this day. In an ever-evolving experiment in balance, harmony, shape, and form, Brown’s work seeks to push abstraction into unexplored visual realms and awaken dormant consciousness in the viewer. His creations are a product of both the shy and the overbearing; it is a visual symphony of duality, contradiction, oneness, and harmony. Heavily influenced by Hip-hop and Jazz, his work relies heavily on improvisation, workflow, and improvements on the fly. Check out exclusive @kelvy___ work in the space. Opening May 2024.

Familia: we cannot express how grateful we are for each of you. Seeing the outpouring of love and generosity has been so beautiful. We have gotten so many uplifting messages and we’ll make sure to reciprocate the love when we catch our breath. It’s not always easy to ask for help, and it just solidifies the intrinsic good in people.

We’re still working with the city on options, but things are in motion.

We’re gonna keep on pushing so we can continue making our city and y’all proud.

Keep your eyes peeled for what’s coming down the pipeline because if nothing else, creative juices have been flowing.

Animo, compas - onwards y upwards 💕

Al huevo - who knew taqueros drinking chelas and having carne asadas on the reg would lead to this 🍻

The Taco Mafia is the idea of friendship, camaraderie, respect, and genuine admiration of one another. We’ve been shooting with @austinpbs since January on a four-part documentary following us, @cuantostacos512 , and @discada on topics like family, tradition, survival, and legacy.

Our compa @palo.seco512 is and will always be a part of The Mafia, don’t fret - we are all supportive of his decision regarding his participation in our documentary. Jerry is one of the kindest and most giving people you’ll ever come across (and also The Muscle of the crew).

The season will be dropping in the fall - we’re excited to share a little bit more of the human side of what we all do and who we are.

Huge thank you to the peeps making it all come together with so much compassion @alexwolfftho and @joereyrocha_tv

Órale, let’s do this!

Baño door appreciation 💫 Once our guests finally find the restroom (so much wandering around the yard), they are greeted with this beauty —> @nvtureofmind has designed a few things around Nixta, including this Nahuatl-inspired painting.

One of the best things at Nixta are the personal touches created by people who we think are super dope!

Come and take a closer peek next time you’re in 🦌

Spending alone time for my 31st birthday was exactly what I needed this time around the sun 🌞 I never felt so much in my power, solid, independent and simultaneously so loved, taken care of and appreciated by my family, extended fam, friends, loved ones and my art supporters as I have felt today. Lots to reflect on and be grateful for 🥹🙏💞⚡️✨
