33 animals treated. Countless conversations.

On September 26, we held another veterinary/animal care clinic in Massiah Street, St. John, an area where we've been working for several years.

We saw 32 dogs and one cat, providing veterinary examinations, vaccinations, deworming and flea and tick treatments. Two dogs were also surrendered into our care, and we made arrangements for further veterinary attention and spaying and neutering.

But some of the most encouraging things that happened that day weren't recorded on the clinic log.

People we'd met on previous visits came back with their animals. Others we'd been talking to over time returned to continue those conversations. And there were new faces, some encouraged to attend by people we'd already worked with.

That's huge.

Massiah Street has some longstanding animal welfare problems. That hasn't disappeared, and there is work still to do. But by continuing to show up and offer practical help and advice, we're building trust.

At this latest clinic, we could see the value of that approach.

Our work in Massiah Street received an important boost through a 2024 World Animal Day grant from Naturewatch Foundation, which helped us expand our efforts in the area. We're so grateful for that support and pleased to be continuing the work.

A big thank you to Dr. Laura Williams of WellVet for volunteering her veterinary services, Spartan Animal Kingdom for donating NexGard and deworming medication, Central Vet for donating vaccines, and Messiah House Wesleyan Holiness Church for hosting us.

And to our volunteers, and especially Alicia and Jenn. You are rock stars! ❤️

Thank you to everyone who brought their animals, came back to see us, or encouraged someone else to attend.

We know we're a little late sharing this one. Between the rescues, emergencies and the sheer number of animals in our care, things have been especially intense lately. There's an awful lot happening at Ocean Acres that never makes it onto our social media at the moment.

There's a lot more to do. And we'll keep doing it. ❤️
