POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

#bts #TheMushroomKeepers 🍄 May's unforgiving heatwave found us huddled in a flickering bamboo hut, sipping wild-noted bitchi, when I realized this @fungifoundation documentary was moving past your typical storytelling. It wasn't about "macro lenses" or perfectly framed shots, but about the raw, unfiltered human connections emerging between each frame. 🫁

⚡️ Sharing #Nakham and #Tungtap fueled meals, we learned to wait. Patiently. Allowing stories to unfurl naturally, without forcing conversations that didn't want to be had. "Aiiiiiyaaaa, let us all eat now...." would be commonly emerging every now and then to nourish before we continue anything else. Even as #Meghalaya's misty hills transformed into an unexpected sauna, these organic moments revealed a strong ecological dialogue we were just beginning to understand. Some tears, contagious laughter, lots of hands held, soft tenderness for the natural world, and building new bridges where our worlds collide.🙏🏻

🔰 The most profound footage emerged from pure presence - watching hands that knew #dambong & #tit (mushroom) like old friends, eyes that illuminated ancestral narratives with each gesture. Behind the scenes was 'animated teasing' - a #Garo love language, 'areca nut picnics' - a #Khasi acceptance, spontaneous forest chases that mapped out mycelial networks more than any scientific notation could capture.

🍄🟫Last week, when we returned to screen the documentary in a community screening format with @alt.eff for our elder friends, something magical happened. Seeing their stories reflected back, hearing their laughter, witnessing their pride - it was a circle completed. A #fungalfamily is being built to come together, in recognising #fungalallies in #solidarity. ✊🏻

And the genuine #friendships we've forged will outlast any film, continuing to whisper the ancient stories of Meghalaya's fungal kingdoms long after our cameras, the screens and the chatter have gone silent.🎥

Thailand dump 🇹🇭 with @naveedmulki

From being kids together to finding ourselves on different paths, in different parts of the world — yet somehow still moving in the same direction.

Deep conversations, live music, some meditation, a lot of chilling and time well spent with my younger brother.

We’ve come a long way. Still a long way to go. ❤️ #brother #thailand #bangkok #meditation #changmai

2 monsoons chasing Roen Olmi. Still not sure who's following whom.📖
💗Termitomyces sp., they call it in the science books. Roen Olmi, if you grew up in Goa. An unsure "collaborator", really, tangled into termite mounds, appearing only when the raingods and something unspoken all agree to let you in.

🧿One year of following her far enough and you're suddenly following everything around it. Who forages, who's allowed to. What's remembered, what's already been lost. Who owns the land the mounds sit on. What gets called "wild food," and by whom. Spiritual in some conversations. Political in others. Always social, always someone's story sitting underneath it. 🐲No story is ever just one story. Been taught by this fungus, how to sit with an entangled world and let it stay entangled, instead of flattening it into something simpler than it is 〰️🌊

Still simmering....🎞️📷
For today, a rava fry and a dry tawa fry with kokum exuding the sizzle, the smoke, and a tang which will cut right through it. Simple, easy, uncomplicated.

May brought us stories, conversations, questions, laughter, and many moments of gathering around books.

From author conversations and book discussions to workshops and reading groups, our spaces were filled with people coming together to read, listen, learn, and connect.

Thank you to everyone who spent time with us this month. These discussions are shaped as much by the people in the room as by the books at their centre.

As we look back on a memorable May, we’re also looking forward to an exciting June at Champaca. We welcome everyone who loves books, conversations, ideas, and the joy of gathering around stories to join us for another month of books at the centre of events, discussions, and community.

We’re back with the second edition of our storytelling workshop with Naveed Mulki and Pankaj Singh!💚

How does something fleeting stay? A line, a memory, a passing thought. And how does it begin to take shape as a story?

Three lines become four. A small shift, but something opens up. A rhythm, a direction, a possibility you hadn’t quite seen before.

This workshop sits right there, in that moment of expansion. Over two hours, Naveed and Pankaj will share how they work with fragments and follow them into fuller forms, how stories gather weight, and how they sometimes surprise you.

If you’ve been meaning to write, or simply to pay attention differently, this is a good place to begin.

10th May, 11 AM to 1 PM

Unbecoming.

It is perhaps one of the more difficult aspects of becoming. We inherit so much of what the world thinks we should be that we almost believe it ourselves, and many of us end up becoming exactly that. Rare are the lives that realise this early, refuse to conform to popular belief, and tread a path of their own.

And then there is Nav.

One of my more eclectic experiences of life has been to witness his. To see him embrace the world’s idea of success and give it his all, his discipline, his heart, his sweat, over and over again. To reach exactly where he was meant to, according to the world, and then deliberately walk away. I do not even know what that kind of becoming in unbecoming is called?!?

Yet, in those years, as he was penancing to be undone, in a very unintentional way he was fortifying my own becoming of a delulu.

As he turned 40 earlier this week, I realised I have now known him for half his life. I also realised that I cannot really call him my friend. But I think we are witnesses to each other’s lives. And there is a profound beauty in that…to be a witness without participating…to simply observe another individual becoming and unbecoming in their own time.

Happy 40 Nav 🎈
