Since I seem to be in the mood to share what I’m currently doing in college for some reason here’s a little mushroom guy I’m modelling for my Modelling and Texturing class.

A series of before and afters:

The results are interesting. I apparently have 2 slip options (one procelain, one stonewear based), 3 out of 4 decent clear glaze options to keep trialling, and the colourants are much brighter than I expected. The 2% peacock mason stain looks very close to 4% sea green. Either is fine IMO. Still feeling meh 🫤 about these.

Time to throw more test tiles and mix up some coloured slip line tests. I also need to do some opacifying/colourant test in the clear glazes. So much to do, so very little time left to do it. 😬😮‍💨

Perspectives, a group exhibition by the second-year students in the New Brunswick College of Craft and Design’s Photography/Videography program at the Fredericton Playhouse highlights the talent of six artists: Ashton Bullen, Drayden Cheney, Mike Gange, Marc Gebauer, Isaac Gould, and Hong Yan. Each artist has a body of work showing unique perspectives and an individual style. The majority of work in this exhibition was produced during the first year of the two-year program at the college. Perspectives opened on September 1 and runs until October 30. Everyone welcome. Regular Playhouse hours - Monday to Friday from 10 am - 3 pm and open 3 hours before performances.

Whatta day! We spent the whole day outdoors in the Raku cage of the college to try out various alternative firing techniques! So glad the sun finally came out after days of rain but it was really chilly with temp feeling like one deg C! The kiln was a lovely respite where we would just gather around it to warm ourselves up.

Techniques we tried:

Glazed American Raku
Naked American Raku with horsehair, sugar, seaweed, feathers, ferric chloride
Obvara firing
Two-step Naked Raku Slip
One-Step Naked Raku Slip

Whew! I’m exhausted but the pots came out really good so it’s all worth it. Next one, saggar firing. ☺️

💙☀️Cyanotypes from Photography Media Exploration. It was my favourite part of the entire four weeks of this exploration course. Just gotta watch a few YouTube videos and invest in a kit, then I'll be working on whimsifying my wardrobe next.☀️🩵
