Another takeover!!! Thank you @samanthaadei !!! “I was able to serve because they served.”

Justice Patricia Timmons-Goodson said that in 2024, standing in the North Carolina Supreme Court as her portrait was unveiled: the first Black woman ever to sit on that court, the first lawyer in her family. She meant the Black soldiers who raised her in Fayetteville, her father among them.

Twenty-eight years on North Carolina benches. She’s dean of NCCU Law in Durham now.

In North Carolina we elect our justices outright. No Senate, no middleman, just your ballot. #brightblack #Sustained #BlackWomenJudges #patriciatimmonsgoodson #vote2026

Thanks to my former @ncculawschool students Victoria Rushin and Harrison Do for having me on their all-star Women in the Law panel featuring @riggsforourcourts and Judges Walker, Mitchell, and Rhinehart. An amazing conversation!

One of the questions they asked me is how men can be better colleagues. I talked about a study from last decade showing female Supreme Court justices were interrupted far more frequently—both by male peers and advocates. The lesson? Take a beat. Hear your colleagues out. Listen to what they have to ask.

From the courthouse to the courtroom. 🇲🇽⚖️

A new chapter for Mayra Nieves, Esq. celebrating the moment she officially stepped into her next role as an attorney. An honor to capture a milestone this meaningful.

Here’s to new beginnings, bigger opportunities, and everything ahead!

Bringing dreams into reality. 📸✨

Happy Homecoming to @ncculawschool from two proud Legal Eagles embodying Dr. James E. Shepard’s mission of civic responsibility—uplifting our communities through truth, service, and action.

Proud of where we came from. Even prouder to carry that legacy forward through service.
