So…what exactly is Hair in Translation™? 🌍✂️

Hair exists everywhere.

Across countries, cultures and communities, we wash it, cut it, braid it, color it, straighten it, curl it, protect it, adorn it and use it to express who we are.

But we don’t all speak the same language when it comes to hair.

Our techniques are different.
Our training is different.
Our tools are different.
Our traditions are different.
Even the way we define “beautiful hair” can be different.

And that’s exactly what I want to explore.

Hair in Translation™ is a global hair education, storytelling and cultural exchange platform exploring the universal language of hair.

It’s a space where beauty professionals from different backgrounds can come together to listen, exchange, learn and document.

I want to sit in salons around the world and hear the stories behind the hands doing the work.

I want to learn techniques I’ve never been taught.

I want to share what more than a decade of working across textures has taught me.

I want to ask questions about culture, tradition, artistry, identity and education.

And most importantly, I want to approach every new space with the understanding that I am just as much a student as I am an educator.

Because Hair in Translation isn’t about one culture teaching another the “right” way to do hair.

It’s an exchange.

A chance to discover what becomes possible when we bring our experiences to the same table—or better yet, the same chair. 😉

Different textures.
Different techniques.
Different traditions.
Different stories.

One universal language.

This is Hair in Translation™.

And we’re just getting started. 🌍🤎

Follow @hairintranslation and come explore with me.

TO THE CRAFT THAT CHANGED MY LIFE.

I thought I was leaving you behind.

For more than a decade, you gave me a place to create, teach, learn, laugh, listen and connect. You introduced me to people I may have never met otherwise. You trusted my hands with transformations, milestones, hard days, fresh starts and countless stories shared from the chair.

And somewhere along the way, you were transforming me too.

When I stepped away, I genuinely thought that chapter of my life was over. I knew I was becoming someone new, and for a while I thought that meant I had to leave that part of myself behind.

But distance has a way of changing your perspective.

Somewhere between letting go of the life I knew and experiencing life on the other side of the world, I realized:

Maybe I wasn’t finished with hair.
Maybe I was only finished with the way I had been experiencing it.

I don’t want to recreate the career I had.

I want to discover what everything I’ve learned can become.

I want to sit with artists whose hands were trained differently than mine. I want to learn how hair is understood across cultures. I want to explore textures, techniques and traditions unfamiliar to me. I want to share what I know and remain humble enough to be a student of what I don’t.

I want to listen.
I want to exchange.
I want to learn.
And I want to document it.

Because hair exists everywhere—but the way we understand it, care for it, teach it, style it and celebrate it tells a much bigger story.

And that’s where Hair in Translation™ begins.

A living archive and global exploration of hair, culture, education, artistry and human connection.

Not one culture teaching another.

An exchange.

Not a return to who I was.

An expansion of everything this craft helped me become.

This is my love letter to the craft that changed my life—and my invitation to experience it again through new eyes.

🌏 The journey begins in Southeast Asia.

UMMMM…MY SUITCASE IS GONE, Y’ALL. 😭🧳
Like…GONE gone. This is not a drill. 😂

I made it across the world to live my dreams and apparently my suitcase had dreams of its own. 🙄😂

After getting the runaround trying to figure out where it is, I’ve decided I’m not about to spend the beginning of this journey stressed over something I can’t control.

Because apparently, surrender means SURRENDER. 😭😂

I obviously didn’t budget for replacing clothes, toiletries and the things I packed to LIVE ABROAD because…silly me…I thought my suitcase would actually arrive WITH ME. 😂

But here we are.

I’m out here trying to live my dreams, follow God, embrace the unknown and trust this journey — even when the journey starts journeying a little TOO hard. 😭

And maybe this is part of the lesson too.

Surrender isn’t only about letting go. Sometimes it’s about being willing to receive. Being transparent. Asking for help when you need it. And allowing your village to show up for you. 🥹🤎

So that’s what I’m doing.

If you’re able and feel led to be a blessing while I replace some of what I lost, I would genuinely appreciate it. 🫶🏾

No pressure whatsoever. A donation, a share, a prayer, an encouraging word — ALL of it is love.

I’m still here.
I’m still grateful.
I’m still trusting.
And I’m STILL Becoming Abroad. 🌍🦋

Although becoming abroad with NO CLOTHES was definitely not on the itinerary. 😭😂

At this point, God…you got it. 😂🙌🏾

I HAVEN’T EVEN MADE IT TO MY DESTINATION YET… and whew 😭🌏✈️

This is a whole new level of TRUST.

The flight delays.
The unexpected hotel stay.
The surprise layover in Tokyo. 🇯🇵
My phone storage deciding to fight for its life at the WORST possible time 😂

And somewhere in the middle of all of it, I realized…

I’m really doing this. 🥹

I’m not planning anymore.
I’m not making the vision board.
I’m not talking about “one day.”

I LEFT.

And if I’m being completely transparent, I’m scared AF. 😂

Because for the first time in a long time, I genuinely don’t know what happens next.

But maybe that’s the assignment.

Can I trust God without knowing the entire itinerary?

Can I trust myself without having all the answers?

Can I stop trying to control how the story unfolds and simply allow myself to LIVE it?

Because somehow, before I’ve even reached my first destination, this journey is already teaching me what Rooted Not Rushed really means.

I can be deeply rooted and still have absolutely no idea where God is taking me. 🌱

So here I am…

Scared AF.
Grateful AF.
Excited AF.
And going anyway. 🥹🧳🌏

I’m embracing the unknown.

This is becoming. 🦚✨

If you feel led to pour into this journey and help me continue creating, documenting and sharing the becoming along the way, your support means more than you know. 🫶🏾🌍

14 years of love. 🥹🦚

Texas became so much more than a place I lived. I built community here. Friends became family, clients became friends, students became teachers, and so many people loved me through different versions of myself.

Looking around the room at The Send Off, I realized just how many chapters of my life were standing together in one place. 🥹

To everyone who came, wanted to come, prayed for me, poured into me, challenged me, celebrated me or simply made space for me — thank you.

The peacock feels especially significant now: a reminder of transformation, authenticity, shedding what no longer fits, and having the courage to step boldly into a new season. 🦚

I may be leaving Texas, but I’m taking 14 years of love with me.

My journey has more meaning because of you.

Thank you for being part of my becoming. 💜

New chapter. Same heart. Bigger wings. ✈️🌍

📼 THE CREATIVE ARCHIVE: UNCUT — 001

Before I archive the world, I want to archive home.

The stories I grew up around.
The memories passed down.
The people who made me.
The moments that explain pieces of who I am today.

UNCUT is the personal side of The Creative Archive — a space for family stories, old footage, memories, laughter, lessons and the voices I never want to forget.

And it only felt right to begin here.

Meet my Dad. ❤️

Today, he’s telling a story about his Dad — my Grandfather.

I’ll let him tell the rest. 🎥

Welcome to The Creative Archive. 📼✨

Some things are too important to simply scroll past.

The music that raised us.
The art that challenged us.
The style they recreated.
The language they repeated.
The ideas that traveled farther than we ever imagined.
The people who created it—and the people around the world who were inspired by it, supported it, and helped carry it forward.

The Creative Archive is where we remember.

This is a living collection of the people, places, sounds, stories, ideas and moments that embody the creativity, influence and undeniable imprint of Black American culture.

But this isn’t only about looking backward.

It’s about seeing where the culture is right now.
How it travels.
How it transforms.
How it connects us across borders.
And what happens when the people inspired by the culture get to tell us what it meant to them.

Expect real stories. Global perspectives. Music. Art. Fashion. Food. History. Conversations with creatives. Sacred questions. Unexpected discoveries. And probably a few moments where we collectively say:

“Wait…WE did that too?!” 😂

I don’t want to just experience these moments.

I want to document them.
Honor them.
Share them.
And archive them.

Because culture this powerful deserves to be remembered.

The past informs.
The present creates.
The future remembers.

Welcome to The Creative Archive. 🗃️🎥🖤

THE CREATIVE ARCHIVE 🎧
BRANOOFUNCK | DALLAS, TX

Some people make music.

Some people create spaces for us to remember why we fell in love with it in the first place.

I’ve been following Branoofunck for about five years, long before I ever had the words The Creative Archive for what I’m building now.

What caught my attention was simple:

They LOVE hip-hop.

Not just the songs.

The culture.
The stories.
The samples.
The eras.
The feeling of hearing that ONE record and immediately knowing exactly where you were when you first heard it. 😂

@branoofunck is the creative partnership of Medz + Menace the DJ, two hip-hop heads whose love for the culture brought them together and eventually created something uniquely their own.

And that’s what I love most about creativity.

Sometimes creativity isn’t about inventing something the world has never seen.

Sometimes it’s about loving something so deeply that you find your own way to carry it forward.

For years, I’ve watched these two turn records into experiences and nostalgia into community.

People come for the music…

but somewhere between the beat dropping, somebody yelling the lyrics, somebody else realizing “WAIT… THAT’S WHERE THAT SAMPLE CAME FROM?!” 😂 and an entire room collectively losing their minds over a song—

something else happens.

Culture gets passed down.

And THAT is why Branoofunck belongs in my Creative Archive.

Because preserving culture is creative work too.

Hip-hop has traveled across generations, cities, countries and continents because people continue finding new ways to tell its story.

And as I prepare to travel the world documenting creativity and the ways Black American culture has inspired people far beyond our borders, it feels right to honor some of the people who have reminded me just how powerful that culture is right here at home.

Five years later, I’m still watching.

Still inspired.

And now…I get to archive it. 🎧✨
