I am so in love with this amazing print that Andrew and I admired in @johnnyalloo back in November. Little did I know that is was waiting under the Christmas tree for me! @neatism is an incredible photographer/artist. Memory provoking/ nostalgic piece. ❤️👌

There’s an abundance of talent currently on display at @ballaratfoto and I’d love to show you some of it.

Featured is the the work of John Umina, @neatism - an awesome film photographer hailing from Central Victoria. I absolutely love his work ‘Ephemerality’, currently showcased at @johnnyalloo

“Ephemerality explores a fading Australian era and contemplates the nation’s evolving identity. Through landscapes and familiar places, viewers are invited to ponder the delicate balance between human influence and the environment, the sublime beauty of our inland country, and the impacts of modernity.”

I’ll add a link to BIFB and John’s exhibition in my bio. Definitely one to check out!

You would have noticed some new artwork gracing our walls lately, this year we are teaming up with @neatism for this years @ballaratfoto, , "Since returning to regional Victoria, John Umina has noticed that places he knew as an adolescent have faded into obscurity. Feeling compelled to capture this, John's exhibition aims to surface some of those places and lost memories. John is pleased to be showcasing these works with us @johnnyalloo."

Meet John Grey. He’s a retired farmer and knows all too well the mental strain his line of work can have on those working the land.

Photographer John Umina bumped into the old timer at his local @woolworths_au car park in Kyneton, Victoria.

The two Johns got talking, and John Grey said that he went to men’s health group about five years ago when he was struggling mentally. It was here that he first heard about the @ruokday message and it changed his life.

John decided to spread the R U OK message by driving all over Victoria with his ute/signs.

John Umina said he’d experienced depression and some rough times in his life, and that’s what led him to approach the farmer.

“So in my own small way I tend to check in on people when they're going through rough times,” he said.

“He told me the signs helped him, that the act of putting them up actually was part of his therapy.

“My own device for therapy is photography.

“It helps me get closer to people and listen to them.”

Same name, same purpose - to listen and help others by sharing their stories. What legends.

📸 @neatism

You can call @lifelineaustralia on 13 11 14 should you wish to speak with someone regarding your mental health, or you can jump onto Kindly to speak with a kind soul (link in our bio).
