Yesterday we traveled to York for FLC and had such a great time! It was awesome to dive into all the workshops, connect with other members, and soak up everything the day had to offer. We really enjoyed the atmosphere and getting to focus on what makes HOSA special.

What looked like a day of pure fun to our young guests (ages 5 months to 12 years) was actually a masterclass in child development, designed by two of our Masters of Occupational Therapy (MOT) students.⁣
⁣
As first-year MOT student Raegan Geary explains, the recent Pediatric OT Open House provided hands-on opportunities for NMC students to observe developmental milestones across a wide range of childhood ages. Raegan worked with her classmate Molly and her professors to plan the day’s activities.⁣

Watch the video to see the mess, and the learning, unfold! ⁣

After last-minute prep sessions, script rewrites, 600k+ steps together, and more DoorDash orders than we can count… here’s our week in Indianapolis.

Already counting down until next year. See you in Philly! 💙❤️

Most of the speaking I do is for professional organizations and businesses, but during the summer I’m privileged to lead several “CTSO State Officer” training weeks for student leaders who are on their way to becoming professionals. These leaders are high school and college students who are presidents, vice presidents, treasurers, etc. of organizations like FBLA, FFA, FCCLA, DECA, SkillsUSA, HOSA, Educators Rising, BPA, and TSA. It’s a huge honor and responsibility for these students to lead their peers for the upcoming school year, and these weeks of training and planning are their first real, intense step into the journey ahead.

This summer, I’m working with two state CTSOs — Nebraska and Utah (this picture is with the Nebraska FCCLA State Officer team). It’s an absolute privilege to serve in this capacity, and I always walk away not only grateful for the opportunity, but also encouraged. These young men and women are pursuing life and leadership with commitment and passion. They are striving for excellence in all they do. They understand, even at their young age, that leadership is about investing in and serving others. And they represent thousands of other students in their state organizations who have the same desire.

All that to say, please remember for every bad story you hear about young people, there are dozens of untold good stories of young men and women like these. And, as someone who gets to spend several weeks during the summer seeing it up close and personal, I hope this insight encourages you as much as it does me. It’s truly inspiring!

High schoolers at this year’s Nebraska HOSA @nebraskahosa convention got an immersive lesson in the Social Determinants of Health (SDOH). Follow this four-part ⁣series for a firsthand look at The Poverty Sim.⁣
⁣
A core part of nursing and allied-health education at NMC, this deeply researched tool ⁣gives students a felt sense of the challenges many of our community members face — from ⁣housing insecurity to food deserts and transportation barriers.⁣
⁣
In Part 1, public health policy teacher Kiley Petersmith explains how the sim helps⁣ future healthcare workers ask better questions, developing the tools to transform @nebraskahosa healthcare systems. Petersmith introduced the sim to NMC 10 years ago from the Missouri ⁣Community Action Network @missourican.
