Huge thank you to everyone who joined us for the screening of The People's Emergency Briefing yesterday, both at the Piazza and at the Sustainability Hub.

We heard so many thoughtful ideas, meaningful conversations, and passionate reflections during the discussions afterwards. It was truly inspiring to see so many people engaging with the challenges and opportunities highlighted in the film, and sharing their hopes for a more sustainable future.

The screening at the Piazza felt particularly special. There was something powerful about seeing people stop as they walked by, take a seat, and spend time watching the film. Creating opportunities for unexpected encounters and conversations is exactly what this event was about, and it was incredibly moving to see that happen in real time.

$Most people think climate change just means the weather gets a couple of degrees hotter. It doesn’t. It means complete climate instability. Like nothing we have seen in human history. We have had stable climate conditions for all of human history, and experts are clear: we have to totally stop emissions, not just slow them down, because every fraction of a degree brings more chaos. The AMOC stream and the Gulf Stream with it loose their power. Weather events get longer and closer together. Winter weather in the UK could plummet to -20/-30 degrees Celsius with 3-5 months of frozen ground. Summers would continue to peak at +40 degrees Celsius. Water would not be enough. Farming impossible. Now is really not the time to “drill baby drill” and throw more heat on the fire with more oil fields. Londoners and Europeans, you felt it this summer. Do not let this get even worse. Do not let the government approve Rosebank on your watch. Rosebank is an oil field that would increase UK emissions by 70% and therefore exponentially increase our contribution to climate change and the likelihood of irreversible reductions in the liveability of the UK. UK actuaries filed a report that says there is a risk of 4 Billion people dying under some climate change scenarios. That is half of the world’s population. Every bit of oil we burn matters. Do not make it harder to turn the tap off. Rosebank won’t make food or energy more affordable, it won’t put food on your table it won’t bring the economy jobs.
